West Gold Street 789-4255 "Church Of The Week Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church began October 10, 1950, when a group of eleven men met at Keeter's Department Store and discussed the possibility of establishing a mission congregation in Kings Mountain. They took. their plan to Dr. EL. Conrad, president of the North Carolina Synod, who received it with much enthusiasm. oN wn Dr. Conrad visited in Kings Mountain on Oct. 23 and met with twenty-six persons to discuss the organization of the new Lutheran Congregation. The full support of the Board of American Missions was given to the project, and final approval of the plans were received on November 14, 1950. The Rev. Vance Daniel was called to serve as mission developer, effective Feb.1, 1951. The first service of the new congregation was held at West School, Feb. 4, 1951 with seventy-three persons in attendance. Ground breaking for a new building followed quickly, as on Feb. 21, 1951 over 300 persons gathered at the top of the hill at the end of Crescent Hill Rd., for this special service. The newly chartered church, with 93 members, held their first service in the new facility orf December 2, 1951. Pastor Daniel left the congregation to accept a call to Decatur, Georgia in October of 1953. Under the leadership of the Rev. R. Douglas Fritz, growth in the congregation was steady. The present parsonage was completed in 1955, and the interior of the church in 1956, including a beautiful pipe organ. Pastor Fritz resigned in 1958 to accept a call to Memphis, Tenn. The Rev. George T. Moore became Resurrection's third pastor in February of 1959. It was during his pastorate that Resurrection accepted its full benevolent responsibility to the Lutheran Church in America, and completed a beautiful steeple on the Georgian Style building. After Pastor Moore's resignation in 1965, the congregation called the Rev. David L. Castor. During this period of time, a new fellowship hall/office complex was planned, with construction beginning in late 1966. This beautifiil facility was completed during the pastorate of the Rev. A. Glenn Boland in 1971, and has served the congregation well during the last 20 years. Pastor Boland's resignation was received in 1977, and the Rev. W. Gerald Weeks became the sixth pastor of the congregation in July, 1979. Growth again was steady under Pastors Boland and Weeks in the 1970's, and the Men's Group and Children's Choir added greatly to the spirit and fellowship of the parish. The Rev. Phillip M. Squire became the seventh pastor to serve the Resurrection Family, as he was called to the church in October of 1983. Under his leadership, Youth Ministry was revived in the church and plans were made to air condition the sanctuary... a project that was completed by the summer of 1989. Following five years of service at Resurrection, Pastor Squire resigned to become pastor at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Clemmons, NC, and the congregation called the Rev. John W. Futterer to become tiie cigiith pastor of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Pastor Futterer began his duties at the church in July of 1989. Resurrection Lutheran Church stands as a beacon on the hill, inviting all to join us in a life of rising to serve our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ.
