Register
to vote
at library
The presidential election is com-
ing up in November, and, as good
citizens, we will want to exercise
-our-right-to.vote and help select
our national leaders for the next
four-years,.Citizens of Cleveland
County may register at the Mauney
Memorial Library. There are sever-
al things to remember when you
come to register to vote.
BM You must be a resident of
‘Cleveland County. Some areas of
the City of Kings Mountain lie in
Gaston County. Residents of this
area of the city must go to Gaston
County to register to vote.
B® You must have proper identi-
fication with your name, current
address, and birthdate. If your
driver's license is up to date with
your current address, it will be ade-
quate identification. However, if
the address is not current on your
driver's license, we will need to see
some other identification. This
could be a piece of cancelled mail,
. a utility or rent receipt, or any oth-
er official item with your name and
‘current address. Those of you who
do not have a driver's license will
need to bring your birth certificate
in addition to the identification
with your name and address. This
is necessary in order to verify that
you are who you say you are.
Naturalized citizens need to
bring their naturalization papers so
that we can verify citizenship.
Convicted felons must also bring
‘ their court papers reinstating their
citizenship. Registrars are required
to verify citizenship before a per-
son can be registered to vote.
HM You must come to the library
during registration hours. Citizens
may register to vote on the follow-
ing schedule: Monday, Tuesday,
and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7:3C
p.m.; Wednesday, Friday anc
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m
Citizens who come to the library
after these hours will not be regis-
tered.
HM The deadline for registering to
vote-in the. presidential election is
Monday, Oct. 5. In order to register
- quickly without having to wait in
line, it would be-wise to register
early. People who wait until the
last week before the deadline to
register will have to wait their turn.
The registration process can be
simple and easy if these points are
remembered. Don't wait until the
last minute. Be sure you live in
Cleveland County if you wish to
register at Mauney Library. Bring
the proper identification with you.
Come during the designated hours.

Solving Your
Paint Problems?

PAINT
QUESTION: What is Mildew?
ANSWER: Mildew is not caused
by paint. It is an airborne fungus
which feeds on nutrients in the
surface material, residue on the
surface, oils contained in paints
and thickeners in latex coatings.
Moisture is the most important
single factor in the growth of
mildew. For this reason, it is gen-
erally worse in damp shaded
areas.
QUESTION: How do you remove
mildew?
ANSWER: Wash your house,
using a solution of 1 part bleach to
3 parts water and a small amount
of detergent. If the mildew is
extremely bad, you may eed to use
a scrub brush. Make sure you
thoroughly rinse the surface
within 5-10 minutes to clean off all
the residue. If you do not intend to
repaint, you may-need to use a
weaker solution so that your paint
1s notdiscolored by. the bleach.
