DORIS WARE
Doris Cloninger Ware, 63, of
507 Waco Rd., died October 23,
1992 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, she
was widow of Paul Ware and
daughter of the late Philo and
Milley Medlin Cloninger. She was
a retired bank clerk and a member
of Central United Methodist
Church.
Surviving are two daughters,
Jean Stalling of Decatur, GA and
June Mitchell of Lowell; two sis-
ters, Lois Falls of Kings Mountain
and Helen Price of Forest City; and
two grandchildren.
~The graveside service was con-
ducted Monday at 11 a.m. at
Mountain Rest Cemetery by her
pastor, Rev. Robert Little.
ELTA WRIGHT
Elta Grigg Wright, of 422 Oak
Grove Rd., died October 24, 1992
at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County,
she was the wife of Melvin H.
Wright and daughter of the late
Rufus and Mary Clay Grigg. She
was a homemaker and a member of
Patterson Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her
husband, are one son, Harold
Wright of Concord; two daughters,
Mary Lou Scism of Kings
Mountain and Carolyn Armstrong
of Greenville, SC; one sister, Zula
Grigg of Shelby; and five grand-
children.
The funeral was conducted
. Monday at 3 p.m. at Patterson
Grove Baptist Church. Rev.
Richard Plyler officiated. Burial
was in Patterson Grove Cemetery.

HOMER WOODWARD SR.
Homer David Woodward Sr., 65,
of 818 Margrace Rd., died October
25,1992 at home.
A native of Augusta, GA, he
was son of the late James and Ethel
Langley Woodward and was retired
from Kings Mountain Senior
Center. He was a World War II
Navy veteran and a member of
Mountain View Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Daisey
Juanita Pennington Woodward;
two sons, Homer David Woodward
Jr. of Charlotte and William
Richard Woodward of Kings
Mountain; two daughters, Barbara
Woodward and Nona Huskins,
both of Kings Mountain; one
brother, Leroy Woodward of Rock
Hill; one sister, Ruth Howland of
Augusta, GA; and nine grandchil-
dren.
The funeral was conducted
Wednesday at 3 p.m. at True
Gospel Holiness Church. Rev.
Joseph Edwards and Rev. Jerry
Morrow. officiated. Burial was in
Clingman Memorial Gardens in
Blacksburg, SC.

HULDIA MAE EAKER
Huldia Mae Eaker, 94, of
Parkdale Circle, dicd October 26,
1992 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, she
was widow of Jessc Irvin Eaker
and daughter of the laic John and
Amanda Eaker Scllers. She was a
member of Macedonia Baptist
Church.
Surviving are one son, Lester
Eaker of Kings Mountain; two
brothers, Marshall Sellers of
Cherryville and Henry Scllers of
Grand Rapids, MI; one sister,
Rebecca Gattis of Mount Holly;
and one granddaughter.
The funeral was conducted
Wednesday at 11 a.m. at
Macedonia Baptist Church. Rev.
David Philbeck and Rev. Ralph
Sparrow officiated. Burial was in
Mountain Rest Cemetery.
~ LILLIAN JACKSON
Lillian Louise Jackson, 61, of
102 Wells St., died October 23,
1992 at Charlotte Presbyterian
Hospital.
A native of Monroe, she was
wife of Clayton Elmore Jackson.
She was a homemaker and daugh-
ter of the late Andrew and Janie
Cullins Jackson.
Surviving, in addition to her
husband, are two step-sons, George
Martin and Jack Glenn, both of
Rock Hill, SC; one step-daughter,
Susan Glenn of York County, SC;
two brothers, Andrew Cullins of
Charlotte and Bill Cullins of Rock
Hill; and three step-grandchildren.
The graveside service was con-
ducted Monday at 3 p.m. at Forest
Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill by
Rev. Hubert Faulkenberry.
CARL E. PENLEY
Carl Elton Penley, 65, of
Hendricks Street, died October 22,
1992 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Lincoln County, he
was the son of the late Clarence
and Lula Marshall Penley. He was
a retired brick mason and a Navy
veteran of World War II.
Surviving are four sons, Keith
Penley and Dennis Penley, both of
Lowell, David Penley of Gastonia
and Rodney Bishop of Kings
Mountain; four daughters, Barbara
Garrison of Belmont, Patsy
Stevens of Lowell, and Becky
Davis and Holly Varnadore, both
of Kings Mountain; two brothers,
Ernest Penley of Belmont i
Richard Penley of Lowell;

The funeral was conducted
Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel
by Dr. Harold Fite. Burial was in
Greenwood Cemetery in Belmont.
Anand President
of Firestone Co.
Jagmohan "Jaggy" Anand has
been appointed president of
Firestone Fibers & Textiles
Company, the new tire cord and in-
dustrial woven fabric plant going
up in the new industrial park near
Kings Mountain.
Anand succeeds Charles R.
Ramsey, who has been appointed
vice- president, human resources
and total quality control,
Bridgestone/Firestone Inc., based
in Nashville, Tn.
Anand, 47, a native of Lahore,
India, earned his masters’ degree in
industrial engineering at Bradley
University.
He joined Firestone in 1970 as
an industrial engineer. In 1983 he
was named production manager at
Firestone's Albany plant in Georgia
and in 1986 became manufacturing
engineering manager at the
Firestone Gastonia fibers and tex-
tiles plant. Anand bccame plant
manager in Gastonia in 1988.
Anand and his wife, Nancy, have
a son, Jay, and a daughter, Rashmi,
both college students.
BH Unpublished one-act plays are
being sought by the Gardner-Webb
College Theatre, according to John
Brock who said a cash prize of
$300 and production of the win-
ning play are being awarded in the
adult competition and $100 cash
prize for best student entry.
Deadline for submission of plays is
Jan. 15, 1993. Call Brock at 434-

City. Jack Hunt has served on many important
committees in the NC General Assembly, includ-
ing Base Budget, Appropriations, Finance, Blind
and Deaf, Manufacturing and Labor, Highway
Safety and has been chairman or vice-chairman
of several. He has served as Chairman of the
Committee on Military and Veteran Affairs, and is
currently Chairman of the powerful House Rules
Committee.
In 1985, colleagues in the NC House of Rep-
resentatives from Manteo to Murphy showed
their confidence in Jack Hunt's leadership ability
by unanimously electing him as Speaker Pro
Tempore, a position in which he served for four
years,.
He was awarded the USS North Carolina Battle-
ship award for “outstanding service to the citizens
and veterans of North Carolina” and was elected
an honorary member of the NC National Guard
“for conspicuous service to the cause of national
defense.” In 1991, he was voted Legislator of the
Year by law enforcement officers.
He was appointed to represent the NC House in
the National Conference of State Legislatures.
He has served by appointment or by statute on
many significant Legislative Commissions includ-
ing Governmental Operations, Legislative Ser-
vices, Bicentennial Commission and the Capitol
Planning Commission.
Jack Hunt is a graduate of Lattimore High School,
Wake Forest College and Emory Dental Univer-
sity. He is married to the former Ruby Crowder
and has five daughters: Judy (Mrs. Hanse Koh-
ler), Penny (Mrs. Jim Corn), Libby (Mrs. Paul Sar-
~azen), Cindy (Mrs. David Martin) and Sally (Mrs.
David Royster), and eleven grandchildren.
