Radiology Week observed
standard of professionalism and
continually maintain ‘those stan-
dards through continuing cduca-
tion, life-long learning and creden-
taling.
Phyllis Lackey, Director of
Radiology, says many people do
not really understand what a tech-
nologist in the radiology field actu-
ally does. "Being a technologist in
this field involves much more than
pushing buttons on equi9pment,”
she says. "Because the field of ra-
diology is so high-tech and ever
changing, there is a lot of school-
ing involved, as well as, certifica-
tion and licensing which is re-
quired. New developments are
constantly taking place such as
CAT scanning, nuclear medicine,
ultrasound imaging, MRI and other
such procedures. We want the com-
munity to be aware of value of
these diagnostic tools and the pre-
cision involved in applying them
correctly.”
Community awareness and cdu-
cation is also an important aspect
of diagnosing many illnesses. The
staff of technicians in the
Department of Radiology is com-
mitted to informing their commu-
nity about the role of radiology in
early diagnosis. Recently, one of
the technologists led a workshop
on breast cancer at a local church,
stressing the importance of self-
participation in one's health care.
The members of the Kings
Mountain Hospital Department of
Radiology include Phyllis Lackey,
Becky Cox, Elaine Dixon, Ava
Young, Joyce Davis, Karen
Putnam, Velvet Champion, Karen
‘Walden, Sally: Thompson and
Camille Thompson.
