Kings Mountain High School placed 17 athletes on fall sports All-Southwestern 3-A Conference teams. In add¥ion, Dan Potter, who coached the Mountaineer soccer team to the SWC title for the sec- ond year in a row, was named SWC Coach of the Year. Senior tackle Shon Byers won two spots on the All-SWC football team, as an offensive lineman and a down lineman on defense. Also representing the Mountaineers on the football team were quarterback Jerry Black and inside linebacker Robbie Ruff. Dennis Morris of East Rutherford, who made the team as a running back and inside lineback- er, was named Player of the Year and Bill Smothers of the Cavaliers was Coach of the Year. Offensive linemen, in addition to Byers, were Ernie Blanton of Burns, Bruce Bradley and Josh Greene of East, Casey Mabry of R- S Central, Joe Rempson and Shannon Roseboro of Shelby and Matt Butler and Shawn Hinson of South Point. Split ends were Curwin Simmons of R-S, Randy Brown of South Point, Lance Petty of Shelby and Tony Phillips of Burns. Joining Black and Morris in the backfield were Keith Washburn of East, Omar Roberts of Shelby and Gerard Hardy and Rachon Stowe of South Point. Shelby's David Secrest was the kicking specialist. Byers was one of six down line- men on defense. Others were Naki Thomas of Burns. O.J. Gary and Stacy Morris of East, Shannon Roseboro of Shelby and Matt Butler of South Point. Joining Ruff and Morris at in- side linebacker were Robert Moore of Shelby, Jeff Patterson of South Point and Keith Washburn of East. Outside linebackers were Otis Miller of East, Robert Curtis of Shelby and Jim Cagle of South Point. Defensive backs were Rodney Pruett of Burns, Lamont Davis of R-S, Robert Williams of Shelby, Lee Cochran and Earl Thompson of East, Lee Wilson of North Gaston and Hunter Armstrong of South Point. BM Kings Mountain placed seven of its 11 starters on the All-SWC _ soccer team. ni “IRepresenting the Mountaineers " were Thong Chanthaphang, Clay Corry, Steven Fisher, Caja Ormand, Ott Phonephet, David Ramsey and Sarimaha Rithiphong. Others selected were Will Knight and Jeremy Pfister of Burns, Jayson Clemmer, Jared Dooley and Lance Martin of North Gaston, Blake Craft, Jon Greco, Dana Henderson, Kenny Morgan Myers, Barrett win in duckpins Allen Myers won four games from Tommy Barrett and Jack Barrett won four from John Caveny in Mixed Duckpin Bowling League actin Thursday night at Dilling Heating. Myers rolled a 128 line and 342 set to lead his team's victory. Tommy Barrett had a 110-305 for the losers. Jack Barrett's 122 line and 313 set led his team over Caveny. Clark, Sean Stockton, Daniel DeBrale, Andy Womick and Brandon Potts of R-S and Bradley Chambers, Brian CHAMPION BOWLERS - Century 21 Hometown Bowling Team won the team event of the Shelby Men's Bowling Association's 24th annual handicap tournament recently, posting a score of 2,960. Jerry Fitch, tournament director, presented the trophy and a certifi- cate from American Bowling Congress to the team, which included, front row, left to right, Del Newsome, David O'Shields and Greg Newsome.
