Keeping Christmas traditions
Keeping traditions at Christmas
is important for Claude and Janet
Suber and their three daughters.
This special time of year is a
time for being with family and
friends and the Subers are celebrat-
ing the Yuletide season by intro-
ducing their four-year-olds to deco-
rations that Claude used in his
home when he was a boy.
Decorating their beautiful home
on Canterbury Road at-Moss Lake
was a family affair for the Subers.
The triplets were excited that some
of the trees and wreaths once be-
longed to Suber grandparents they
had never known. Claude told
them how he cut the top out of the
old family tree to carve a beautiful
addition for the foyer in the
Williamsburg-style brick home.
The girls, rightly so, are the stars
of the household and are the de-
light of the young couple's lives.
Each has a personality all her own
and each has different colored hair
which helps visitors identify them.
Lauren is a red head, Bennett is
brunette and Catlyn is a blonde.
Each tips the scale at about 30
pounds.
The Subers and their children
will go to early church services on
Christmas Eve at St. Matthew's
Lutheran Church and then it's ear-
ly to bed for the youngsters to
await Santa's arrival.
"I really love Christmas and hav-
ing the children has been so special
for us," said Claude, who decorated
two big trees in the house and lit a
fire in all five fireplaces for the
holiday season.
Candlelight illuminates the
home on the outside and inside and
boughs of pine and cedar are remi-
niscent of Christmases past when
his parents, the late Bob and
Rosalie Suber, trimmed a tall tree
on their lawn on Phifer Road with .
4,000 Christmas lights.
A part of the family tradition is
inviting Janet's parents, Willard
and Melba Boyles; her grandpar-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Blanton;
her brother Bruce and Claude's
brother, Bob and his wife, Emily
and sons, Hunter and Lindsey, for a
holiday get-to-gether.
Melba Boyles contributed some
of the decorations in the house. In
the kitchen and formal dining room
are place settings of Christmas chi-
na and crystal which belonged to
Claude's mother. The kitchen cup-
board belonged to Claude's grand-
father, Sam Suber, and holds
Christmas villages and lighted
houses which delight young and
old.
Janet Suber said they planned
and built their home in June 1988
for comfort and use every room of
the house from the formal living
room, dining room, kitchen and

scenes.

den on the first floor to the upstairs
bedrooms and the den/playroom in
the basement. Claude's office i$ al-
so located on the main level as is
the master bedroom.
Federal style of architecture is
patterned after the Governor's
Mansion in Williamsburg, VA
with some modifications, says
Claude, and designed with beauti-
ful hardwood floors and tastefully
decorated throughout. It overlooks
the lake. Coincidentally, the
Subers' first home 12 years ago
was on Canterbury Road in Kings
Mountain.
The triplets enjoy a spacious
bedroom on the second floor where
they play with favorite toys. Their
puppies, Henna, who is red, and
Zac, who is blonde, have the run
of the back yard and play area and
their aquarium in the family room
is a hobby the whole family enjoys.
Jack, a parrot, holds a special spot
in the den and Sylvester and Ming,
two cats, are also familiar play-
mates.
Making Christmas gingerbread,
cupcakes and cookies is one of the
fun things the family does together
during the holidays.
There's never a dull moment in
the household since the arrival of
three babies, said Claude, who says
the children are growing up fast.
Getting out the wreaths and toy
‘trains he used as a child brought
back special memories for Claude,
who said his parents would have
been delighted with triplets. "They
were proud of their grandsons but
they would have had a ball with
these girls," he said, “They are such
a blessing to us."
Suber said the young couple's
best Christmas was in 1988 with
their infant daughters. The healthy
babies had arrived on October 19.
"We think the girls will really
enjoy this Christmas since they
have helped with the decorations
and we've tried to relive some of
our Christmas memories with
them," said the proud father.
—
Silver ornaments and other decorations are used on the family
Christmas tree in the home of Claude and Janet Suber. Their
daughters, Caitlyn, Bennet and Lauren, stand in front of the tree.
Janet Suber and her daughters Lauren, left, Caitlyn, ie and
Bennett, seated, pose in the family room of the beautiful Suber home
on Canterbury Road at Moss Lake.
