Little Dan's, Battleground Ave., re-
ported $400 damage to the face plate
on the gas pumps.
Police have recovered an all-terrain
vehicle and dirt bike. The owner may
claim at the Police Department.
Kenneth Roberts, 917 Grover Rd,,
reported that someone cut the convert-
ible top of his 1974 VW.
Connie Collins, 400 Walnut St., re-
ported larceny of $71 from her purse.
Rick's’ Country Store, Cherryville
Rd., reported that someone forged a
$50 child support check.
The Pantry on Linwood Road and
The Pantry on Phifer Circle reported
$147.86 worth of forged checks.
KM 66, King St., reported that a
customer pumped $3 worth of gas and
didn't pay for it.
WRECKS
Pil. Bob Myers said that a 1986
Chevy Van operated by Suzanne Hall
Sellers, 1211 North Piedmont Ave.,
struck a 1987 Toyota operated by
Jeffrey Dale Grigg, Route 4, at the out-
side mailbox area of the Kings
Mountain Post Office parking lot.
Myers estimated damages at $500.
A 1989 Chevrolet operated by a 16-
year-old driver pulled into the path of a
1978 Pontiac operated by Larry
Anderson: Black Sr., Route 3, at West
King and Mountain Streets doing $475
damage. Sgt. D. E., Johnson investi-
gated.
DECEMBER 16
Ptl. Chris Owens said a 1987 jeep
operated by William Dillard Ivey, 552
Waco Rd., rear-ended a 1985 Lincoln
operated by Tracy Ward Dimetros, 17
Carolina Gardens Apt., on West King
Street doing a total of $6,000 damage.
The accident happened as Dimetros
was turning in to Family Dollar Store.
DECEMBER 17
A 1988 Kenworth truck operated by
Danny Mac Sanford of Roebuck, SC
rear-ended a 1992 Ford operated by
Margie Tillery McCleary, Ferguson
Rd., doing a total of $1,850 damage.
Ptl. Chris Owens said McCleary and
Patricia Patterson, of 214 Parrish
Drive, were treated at Kings Mountain
Hospital.
Pil. J. H. Tessneer charged Charles
Edward Pruiett, 323 S. Avon St.,
Gastonia, with DWI and exceeding
safe after an accident. The officer said
Pruiett, operating a 1982 Toyota, was
traveling at a high rate of speed and
missed the curve on the roadway on
Piedmont Avenue and hit the railroad
tracks. The car tipped over onto the
side. Pruiett was treated at the hospi-
tal. The 1982 Toyota was damaged
$4,000.
Sgt. K. M. Simpson said a 1986
Honda operated by Reba Felts Harper,
1213 Wales Rd., struck a 1979 Chevy
van at West King and Mountain
Streets. The van, turning onto West
King Street, was operated by Charles
Daniel Bowles, 110 Afton Drive.
- Damages were estimated at $125.

social events where alcohol is
served of the new social host liabil-
ity law.
Chief Warren Goforth said that
as we enter this holiday season,
more than ever a server of alco-
holic beverages must exercise care.
"The North Carolina Supreme
Court recently ruled that a host can
be held responsible for injuries
caused by a guest who becomes in-
toxicated and has a wreck on the
way home from a party,” said
Goforth. "The Court said the host
of a party who serves alcohol to a
guest who is under the influence
when the server knew the guest
“was likely to drive a carcan be
sued for injuries caused by the
guest while operating an automo-
bile."

Court, the "social host" liability at-
taches to all citizens because "we
are all under a duty to the people
who travel on the public highways
not to serve alcohol to an intoxicat-
ed individual who was known to be
driving," said Goforth.
When having a party, the host is
responsible for assuring that guests
are not served alcohol to the point
of intoxication, when the guest
may drive. "Intoxication does not

mean obviously drunk but means
that the guest's mental or physical
faculties are noticeably affected by
the alcohol," said Goforth.
"The host must remain alert dur-
ing the entire party, but especially
while guests are leaving," accord-
ing to Goforth. 3
A party can be made safer by
serving non-alcoholic drinks to
drivers and closing the bar and.
serving food at least 30 minutes
prior to the end of the party.
