The Lady Mountaineers came from nine points down in the ‘fourth quarter to post their second victory, 42-41, and the Mountaineers grabbed the lead ear- ly in the second quarter and were ‘never headed in a 76-67 waltz past the Mustangs. The Mountaineers, 3-3, will «compete in the annual Shelby Star Holiday Tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Gardner-Webb # College. East Lincoln was still on top 31-22 going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Mountaineers used a ‘full-court trap to force East Lincoln into numerous turnovers in the fourth quarter. Christy McCleary's three-point play with 3:44 left cut the East Lincoln lead to 37-36 and Tonia Barrett tied the score with a free throw with 3:32 remaining. Tameeka Anderson, who led the KM scoring with 12 points, stole the ball and hit a short jumper to give the KM ladies their first lead at 39-37, and Amanda Halmess hit a free throw to put the game on ice. The victory was the second in six decisions for Kings Mountain. For the first time this year, the Mountaineers were not in a come- from-behind situation in the second half. In losses to powerful Hunter Huss, the Mountaineers got behind early and couldn't quite come back, and in a pair of victories over a good Clover, S.C., team the Mountaineers fell behind by dou- ble digits in the first half but were able to come back to win in the fourth quarter. Kings Mountain broke away from a 16-16 tie at the end of the first quarter to lead by 38-30 at in- termission. Quick baskets by Justin Jones and Calvin Mathis at the be- ginning of the third quarter broke the game open. Flufs win first half title in Duckpin League The Flufs won three of four games from TarPack while the Naggers were splitting with the Alley Cats Thursday night, giving the Flufs the first half champi- onship in the Mixed Duckpin Bowling League. The Flufs finished the half with a 34-26 record to the Naggers' 33- 27 mark. TarPack was third at 30- 30 and the Alley Cats fourth at 23- 37. Team captain John Caveny bowled a 163 line and 363 set and Margaret Dilling added a 111 line and 317 set to lead the Flufs to the championship. Tommy Barrett led TarPack with a 119 line and 325 set and Dan Dilling added a 132 line and 304 set. ; A wide margin of victory in the first game allowed the Alley Cats to win total pins and knock the Naggers out of a shot at first place. Allen Myers was the Top Cat with a 130 line and 344 set, and Bob Rathbone added a 119 in the first game which allowed the Cats to win by a big margin.
