Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, January 14, 1993 | Obituaries | JAMES ERVIN CONNER James Ervin Conner, 84, of 105 Cloninger St., retired owner of Conner's Auto Garage, died January 11, 1993 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Cleveland County, he was the husband of Ethel Cabe Conner whom he married 68 years ago. He was the son of the late John Oscar and Betsy Bumgardner Conner. He had owned and operat- ed Conner's Auto Garage and was a mechanic for many years before retirement, He was a member of Zion Baptist Church Church of Gastonia and a former Sunday School teacher and former member of the Faith Gospel Singers. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, John W. Conner of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Garnell Bryant and Betty Payne, both of Bessemer City; three broth- ers, Clyde E. Conner and Raymond F. Conner, both of Gastonia, and Kenneth W. Conner of Jacksonville, FL; three sisters, Mildred Mauney of West Palm Beach, FL, Iva C. Heflin of Gastonia and Texie Lewis of Livermore Falls, Maine; 15 grand- children; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church in Gastonia. Rev. Sam Robbins, Rev. Lewis Owens and Rev. Robert Ammons will offici- ate. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. THURMAN BEATTY Thurman Gold Beatty, 67, of 523 Longbranch Rd., died January 10,1993 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was married to Oree Terry Beatty and was retired owner of Beatty's Fish Camp. He was son of the late Walter and Ollie Barrett Beatty. He was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Dennis Beatty of Fallston and Norris Beatty and Larry Beatty, both of Shelby; three daughters, Anita Beatty, Deloris Curry and Rita Stafford, all of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Carl Beatty and Dwight Junior Beatty, both of Kings Mountain; four sisters, Eunice Toney, Hazel Singleton and Arlee Lail, all of Kings Mountain, and Lib Thomas of Shelby; and seven grandchil- dren. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Allen Memorial Baptist Church. Rev. Norris Willis, Rev. Allen Davis, Rev. B. L. Queen and Rev. Randy Clark officiated. BOBBITT BESSEMER CITY - Jack Benjamin Bobbitt, 62, of 901 S. 10th St., died January 4, 1993 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Kings Mountain, he was the son of Edna Blanton Bobbitt of Statesville and the late Clarence B. Bobbitt, He was a retired lead man at the , Wix Corporation Allen Plant in Gastonia, was past president of the Bessemer City Optimist Club, past member of the Bessemer City Jaycees, member of the Cleveland County Civil Air Patrol, former co- owner of Rusty's Food Store, and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Doris Boyles Bobbitt of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Bonnie Bobbitt of Kannapolis and Alan and Suzanne Bobbitt of Gastonia; oile sister, Shirley B. Lail of Hickory; and two grandsons, Keith and Scott Bobbitt of Gastonia, The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Dick Whitener at 11 a.m. January 6 at the Sisk-Butler Funeral Home chapel. Ellis Sr., 73, of 109 Felding Rd., died January 3, 1993 at 6:15 p.m. in Dowdy Gardner Nursing Care Center at Rock Hill. A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Bloomfield and Millie Davidson Ellis. He was the widower of Elneator Oglesby Ellis. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of Limestone Manufacturing Co. He is survived by five daugh- ters, Mrs. Evelyn Smith, Mrs. Elizabeth Gaffney, Mrs. Amelia Marie Evans, Mrs. Helen Bailey and Mrs. Angela Davis, all of Gaffney; eight sons, Willie Ellis, Stanley Ellis, Maurice Ellis, and Kelvin Wilson, all of Gaffney, Randy Wilson of Trenton, NJ, E4 Carl Bailey of the U.S. Navy in Florida and Lamon Ellis and James Edward Ellis, both of Kings Mountain; four sisters, Mrs. Allene McGill of Washington, DC, Mrs. Rosa Lee Bridges of Norfolk, VA, and Mrs. Marie Epps and Nathaniel Ellis, both of Gaffney; 42 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church. Rev. Andy Young and Dr. Samuel M. Johnson offici- ated. Burial was in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. FRANKIE R. MOORE Frankie Ruth Moore, 48, of Route 1, Box 468, Kings Mountain died January 6, 1993 at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Sam and Alice Davis Moore. He was retired from Steveco Knit Company after 13 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. He is survived by one son, Frankie Lamar Moore of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Pamela Rennia Moore of Kings Mountain; four brothers, Lewis Moore, George Moore, Robert Moore and Willie Moore, all of Kings Mountain; six sisters, Geraldine Burris of Gastonia, Mary Ann Young, Martha Ann Moore, Ethel Mae Odoms and Alicye White of Kings Mountain, and Mabel Moore of Philadelphia, Pa.; and one grandchild. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. W.A. Maddox Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. ROBERT THOMPSON Robert Alexander Thompson Sr., 62, of 113 Goforth Rd., died January 6, 1993 at home. He was retired from Azel Electronic Co. Surviving are his wife, Rev. Josie Hamilton Thompson; three sons, William Thompson and Robert Thompson, both of the home, and Anzell Thompson of Gastonia; one daughter, Mary T. Littlejohn of Lincolnton; three brothers, Calvin C. Thompson of Lowesville, Benjamin Thompson of Kings Mountain and Raeford Thompson of Iron Station; nine grandchildren and one great-grand- child. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church by Rev. Wade Wallace. Burial was in the church cemetery. LILLIE HORD Lillie Hunt Hord, 74, of 410 Meadow Lane, died January, 7, 1993 in Cherryville Oaks Nursing Home. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Bulo M. and Coy Self Hunt. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Moriah Methodist Church. Surviving are one brother, Bulo M. Hunt Jr. of Lake Norman; four sisters, Marjorie Palm of Waseca, MN, Mattie Wellmon of Shelby, and Lal.ene Washburn and Barbara Young, both of Boiling Springs. The graveside service was con- ducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park by Rev. Steve Dyson. Larry Winebarger and The Winebargers will preach and sing at Foursquare Gospel Church Saturday and Sunday in the first weekend in a series of special services. Foursquare services set Foursquare Gospel Church is planning special weekends of ser- vices this month. Rev. Larry Winebarger and The Winebargers will sing and lead the services on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday morning at the 11 a.m: worship hour. Winebarger will de- liver the message. Dr. Charles Aldridge, the local pastor's partner for a second mis- sion trip to Africa, will preach on January 23 at 7 p.m. and the Facemyer Family will present gospel music that evening. The church choir will present special music at the January 24 service at which Rev. Ray Allmond will de- liver the message. The January 30 service at 7 p.m. will feature Berry Bostic, senior at East Coast Bible College. A fourth weekend of services is tentatively scheduled. Rev. Oscar Stalcup has invited Mary Ann Talley, minister of music and a for- mer singer with PTL, to sing at one of the services that weekend. The public is invited. Health program at First Baptist Kings Mountain's First Baptist Church invites the public to attend the First Place Orientation to be held Sunday, Jan. 31 from 5-7 p.m. |, in Assembly Room D' of the Church. First Place is-a Christ-centered health program with an emphasis on weight control. The program consists of weekly Bible studies, daily Scripture meniory and coms | mitments to prayet, exercisé ard proper nutrition.
