1992-93 National Honor Society officers are, left to right, Todd Hagans, President; Edie Hicks, Vice-President; Ty Ross, Secretary; and Todd Ware, Treasurer. National Honor Society plans special activities The National Honor Society at Kings Mountain High School is presently planning and participat- ing in many activities. The KMHS charter has 26 active members, which is served by four officers and is advised by three fac- ulty members, Mrs. Pam Goforth, Mrs. Sara Griffin and Mrs. Gay Henderson. The purpose of the NHS is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render ser- vice, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. This purpose is being executed by participating in several service projects, In October, several members partici- pated in the CROP Walk to fight world hunger. On December 9, 1992, the NHS sponsored a Christmas shower for the faculty ‘and staff at KMHS. The shower al- lowed all staff members to enjoy fellowship and to contribute a toy which was given to a needy child in the community. The NHS pro- vided guides for the recent Parent- Teacher Conferences at KMHS. These students helped parents find the correct classrooms during the conferences, which were held on Thursday, January 14 from 1-8 p.m. Several new projects have been planned for the new year. A recy- cling project will be started to re- cycle the newspapers from the me- dia center. By sponsoring a recycling project, the NHS can contribute to the actions of saving the earth. Fundraising will begin soon to raise money for scholar- ships to be awarded to NHS mem- bers. The NHS will be selling can- dy and will give away a dozen roses on Valentine's Day. The in- duction of new members is planned for April and a social meeting in May will conclude activities for the 1992-93 school year.
