Putnam said that first graders
hope to sell the most tickets and
win the 10 foot trampoline with
safety pads donated by Bridges
Hardware. The lucky ticket holder
will receive the prize. If the stu-
dents win, the trampoline will be
presented to Chad. The winning
ticket will be drawn at West School
PTO's February 23 meeting.
"The financial burden to Chad's
family will be tremendous,"
said Chad's aunt, Rene Carver,
with whom Brooke is staying while
her parents are at Carolinas
Medical Center in Charlotte with
the boy.
"The community of Kings
Mountain has overwhelmed the
family with concern and support
and we want to especially thank
~. The boy's condition has stabi-
‘lized but doctors tell his parents
that the West School first grader re-
mains in a "light coma."
A blood vessel apparently burst
without warning in the boy's brain
as he sat at lunch at school January
20. Within minutes Chad was un-
conscious. Quick action by school
officials was credited by the par-
ents with saving his lifc.
"The doctors tell us that realisti-
cally Chad may not wake up soon,”
said the father. After another brain
scan this week, rehabilitation will
begin and Chad may be moved
from a private room on the
Pediatrics floor to the 7th floor re-
habilitation wing.
Chad was
Intensive Care Friday.
"He looks wonderful," said the
father, upbeat about the boy's re-
sponse to his teachers’ visit. We
