McKenney donates truck to Gaston McKenney Chevrolet and the Chevrolet Motor Division recently donated a 1993 Chevrolet Silverado truck to Gaston College. Robbie Towe, service manager at McKenney Chevrolet, handed over the keys to Roland Bell, Dean of Industrial Technologies. The truck was donated as part of an effort to enhance Gaston College's automotive program by allowing students an opportunity to become familiar with the latest in automotive technology. In the past 20 years, nearly 10,000 new Chevrolet cars and trucks damaged in transit or by flood have been donated to schools for in-class instructional purposes. Any secondary public and parochial schools, private nonprofit secondary and technical school, and community college with an au- tomotive service training program may quality for the donation of a vehicle or vehicle component. Gaston College students current- ly enrolled in an automotive tech- nology class will have the first op- portunity to examine the truck's inner workings. Choruses to entertain at Shelby Kings Mountain, Shelby, Crest and Burns High choruses will pre- sent their annual choral festival at Malcolm Brown Auditorium in Shelby on February 11. The con- cert will begin at 7:30. Admission * . isone dollar. Two hundred twenty students from the four area high schools’ ad- vanced chorus will perform togeth- er on a selected program. The clini- cian is Jim Williams from East Burke High School. Williams has taught choral music in North Carolina for 30 years. His groups have consistently received superior ratings at contests. He was chosen as teacher of the year during his teaching career. Music to be performed includes "When the Saints" by John Rutter, *O: Praise. the Lord" by Rachmanioff and "Lord, Make Me and Instrument of Thy Peace" by Jim Williams. Melanie Lamb Phi Kappa Phi Melanie P. Lamb of 632 Kings Drive is one of 111 new members of Western Carolina University's chapter of Phi Kappa Phi national honor society. The honor society promotes ex- cellence in all fields of higher edu- cation. Membership is open to ju- niors who have at least a 3.8 average, seniors with a 3.5 aver- age, graduate students and faculty. Lamb is a senior majoring in en- vironmental health. A Dean's list ~ student, she is a member of Pi Gamma Mu and Mortar Board honor societies. She transferred from Belmont Abbey College. A graduate of Hunter Huss High School, she lives in Kings Mountain with her husband, Stanley M. Burris. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Lamb of King Mountain. HB A leisurely-paced hike to the summit of King's Pinnacle with a park volunteer is planned Saturday, February 13, at Crowders Mountain State Park. Students model Ahh. The good old days! "Little House on the Prairie" North School-style featured a pro- gram in Mrs. Scism and Mrs. Herndon's second grades recently. After enjoying the classic, "Little House on ‘the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder the children . enjoyed hands-on experiences from the book. They wore a fur stole made from PAWN SHOP 'Prairie’ clothing mink pelts as well as other days of old attire. Ask any one of the students about their horse, saddle and bridle in the corral and you will be invit- ed to ride, as well as learn the parts of the equipment.
