EEE vides its membership with a host of Lunches to benefit program Southern Bell employees in Gastonia will sponsor three lunch- es in the next two weeks to benefit, "With Friends Inc." With Friends, a run away shelter for Gaston youth, has set as its goal "to make a positive difference in the lives of our youth." The non- profit organization will provide 24 hour crisis intervention and referral hot-line plus counseling for youth and their families. This service will be free of charge. "Organizations such as our Telephone Pioneers and others will help the shelter become a reality," said Esther Nelson, member of the board of With Friends" and a past Telephone Pioneer President. Gaston County is the largest county in North Carolina with no teen run away shelter. During 1991-92 130 children ran away from home in Gaston County and 263 cases of abuse were reported and investigated, 1,484 cases of ne- glect and 82 cases of neglect and abuse. A total of 709 cases wee substantiated. The first luncheon will be on Thursday and reservations can be made by calling 704-861-6224. Carter will recognize volunteers and division leaders for their ef- forts in a drive for funds to help 16 charitable organizations and causes in the community. KMLT to present comedy Kings Mountain Little Theatre will present the three-act comedy, "Cheaper By The Dozen," February 19-20 and February 26- 27 at 8 p.m. and February 21 at 3 p.m. at Kings Mountain Woman's Club. Water line to be completed Tieing-in of a 12-inch water line along the frontage road on the south side of I-85 and Canterbury Road was completed Wednesday afternoon. Kings Mountain city engineer Tom Howard said the city contact- ed all residents of York Road and workers at Thermocote Welco's plant that the water would be cut off from 3-6 p.m. for the city to make the tie-in. The water line will serve the bi new Firestone Plant. : "This is a key project,” said Howard. "We have one more tie-in »«t0.make in front of Consolidated Freight on Canterbury Road and the water lines will be in and con- nected with existing lines." Sewer line construction is also underway in the Canterbury area. Progress is ongoing to meet a May deadline for opening of the new plant, said Howard. The city will provide water, sew- er and gas to serve the plant in Kings Mountain Business Park. In other city activities, Howard said that city workers are cleaning up the old Cline property on Moss Lake which was burned in a fire training exercise recently.
