"Cheaper By The Dozen" is a comedy: sure to delight Little Theatre gOers. This fresh, founded-on-fact comedy opens Friday night for two week- ends of performances at Kings Mountain Woman's Club. Friday and Saturday night shows and February 26 and February 27 shows are at 8 p.m. A Sunday matinee is Sunday, February 21, at 3 p.m. Julia Wood is directing the production which features agast of 16. Debbie Hoover is stage manager. The best-selling novel was condensed by Reader's Digest, selected by the Book of the Month Club, serialized by The Ladies Home Journal and was the basis for an outstanding technicolor motion picture. The book was written by Frank B. Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey. The three-act comedy is dramatized by Christopher Sergel and produced by The Dramatic Publishing Company. "This is the perfect play for amateurs and we think the Kings Mountain audience will be delighted," said Wood. Dad Gilbreth and Mom Gilbreth are portrayed by Rick Hoover and Shearra Miller. The children include Molly Blanton, John Elliott, Virginia Neisler, Carrie Sizemore, Jared Chapman, Meghan Potter, Brandy Lovelace, Rebekah Miller, Elise Mayse, and Kathleene Miller. Other characters are Teresa Lyman, Shannon Hullender, Jeff Grigg; Josh Chapman, Lora Goins and Jason Powell. The setting is the Gilreath home in the 1920's. Music for the production is under the direction of Linda Dixon. "Everyone who has a big family or who has lived in an active house- hold will appreciate the goings-on of this family," said Wood. Nostalgic scenes take the audience at once to a lived-in household Teresa Lyman, the housekeeper, Rick Hoover, Papa Gilbreath and Lora Goins, the school teacher, rehearse a scene from "Cheaper By Little Theatre presents Woman's Club. The housekeeper, Mrs. Fitzgerald, played by Teresa Lyman and Shannon Hullender, and the family doctor, played by Jeff Grigg, add hu- mor to the show. Sometimes Fitzgerald's patience is tried by the goings- on in the large household. Dr. Burton is plain and outspoken. Miss Brill, the ‘school teacher, played by Lora Goins, has no love for the children and they have none for her. A friend of the older ‘girls, Larry, (Jason Powell) adds to the plot. Tickets are on sale at the door at $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. The play is funded, in part, by a grassroots grant from the North Carolina Arts Council.
