Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, February 18, 1993 Judge speaks at KM church A large crowd of church mem- bers and friends celebrated the 13th anniversary banquet of St. Paul United Methodist Church Saturday night at Ebenezer Recreation and Park Center and heard an address by Judge Calvin McSwain of Greensboro. Rev. Liston Sellers Jr., pastor, welcomed the group. Attorney Clayward C. Corry Jr. introduced the speaker. Dr. E. Thombs was master of ceremonies. Ministers participating on the program were Rev. Stellie Jackson, Rev. C. A. Feemster, Rev. D. C. Wilson and Rev. John Houze. Mayor Scott Neisler and Mrs. Neisler were guests. The mayor gave greetings. Henry Gilmore presented special music. The program opened with the national anthem of the Black na- tion, "Lift Every Voice and Sing." Ushers were Michael Adams, Ezell Bell, Roger McClain, Jet Parker, Jethro Parker and John and Jonathan Starr. Hostesses for the fellowship hour were Michelle Crawford and Alana Moore. The dinner opened a weekend celebration by the church. Sunday, Rev. J. W. Saunders was the speak- er at the special 2 p.m. worship ser- vice at the church. Benefit singing at Buffalo Baptist A gospel singing to benefit Kayla Newton will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church in Blacksburg, S.C. Kayla Newton, three-week old daughter of Steve and LeighAnne Newton, is hospitalized in Carolinas Medical Center with two rare diseases - Ondine's Curse and vioebius Sequence. Rev. Ricky Scruggs, pastor, in- vites the public to attend. Sales benefit cancer patient A fundraiser this Saturday at New Camp Baptist Church near Woodbridge will benefit cancer pa- tient Dennis Owenby, 37. Owenby continues to take radia- tion treatment daily. A yard sale and hot dog sale will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. Hot dog plates are $3.50. | & Set-Up | Convenient Credit Terms o Satisfaction Guaranteed ANNUAL BOX SPRING Revival scheduled at Wayside Church There will be a Holy Ghost re- vival February 18-20 at Wayside Church of the Living God, located on Long Branch Road. Services will begin at 7 p.m. each night. There will be special singing and prayer for the sick. Rev.*Douglas Painter will be the evangelist. Rev. Clifton Morgan, pastor, in- vites the public. Poor Man supper at KM Missionary A benefit poor man's supper will be held Saturday from noon until 6 p.m. at Kings Mountain Missionary Methodist Fellowship Hall on First Street. A gospel sing will follow at 7 p.m.. The sponsors are advertising the event as "all you can eat for $4." The meal will include pinto beans, fried potatoes, greens, slaw and cornbread with iced tea or soft drinks. Dessert is 50 cents. The gospel singing will feature New Vision from Gastonia and Singing Missionaries plus others. The public is invited. Proceeds benefit the building fund of the church, Hospital needs lay volunteers The Department of Pastoral Care at Gaston Memorial Hospital is looking for lay pastoral volunteers. A training program will be held in March. Lay pastoral volunteers visit new admissions to the hospital, as- sist in contacting patients’ clergy and provide basic pastoral support. Potential participants will be screened and interviewed to select class members. Those selected will complete an orientation program. Persons interested should contact the department of pastoral care at Gaston Memorial Hospital, week- days 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. 834-2888. BM Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church on Branch ‘Street will serve barbecue February 19 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Call 734-0036 to place take-out orders.
