Seniors win art competition Medals were awarded to more than 40 senior adults during last week's art competition sponsored by the Council on Aging/Senior Center. The Silver Arts Festival was held February 22-26 with seniors from Cleveland County competing in visual, literary, heritage and per- forming arts. Painting, photogra- phy, sculpture, creative writing, quilting, woodworking, dancing and singing were just a few of the categories in which participants competed. First, second and third place winners in the various categories were: Qils - Modie Houston, Nora Mauney and Modie Houston. Acrylics - Polly Ledford, Evelyn Jackson and Polly Ledford. Sea The Obituaries DAVE JONES BAKERSVILLE -Dave Jones, 88, of the Loafers Glory Community, died February 24, 1993 in a Spruce Pine rest home. He was the son of the late James and Nancy Childers Jones and was a member of Vians Valley Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Vaughtie Johnson Jones; two sons, Ted Jones of Kings Mountain and Jesse Jones of Louisville, OH; one sister, Mary Hughes of Pigeon Roost; three brothers, Woodrow Jones of Johnson City, Arthur Lee Jones of Lawton, OK and Jim Jones of Polo, Ill; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted ~ Friday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Grindeland officiated. Burial was in Vians Valley Cemetery. CHELCEE SCISM Chelcee Lynn Scism, of 423 Oak Grove Rd., infant daughter of Neal and Tammy Hutchins Scism, died February 24, 1993 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. Surviving, in addition to the par- ents, are one sister, Jennifer Lynn Scism of the home; her grandpar- ents, Jack and Mona Hamrick Scism and Wilburn and Mary Hamrick, all of Kings Mountain, and her great-grandparents, Nora Hutchins of Grover and Robert and Juanita Craig of Kings Mountain. The graveside service was con- ducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Patterson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Richard Plyler and Rev. Raymond Allmund officiated. JOHNNY SMITH Johnny Lee Smith, 47, of 225 North City St., died February 23, 1993 in Kings Mountain Hospital. Surviving are his mother, Annie Mae Bell of the home; three broth- ers, David Smith of Bedford, Mass. and Willie Smith and James Smith, both of Kings Mountain; one foster brother, Sammy Bell of Cherryville; four sisters, Pearlee Watson of New Haven, Conn., Betty Biney, Sairy Spriggs and Helen Jeffries, all of Kings Mountain; and one foster sister, Elizabeth Bell of Gastonia. The funcral was conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Rev. C. A. Feemster officiated. Burial was in Long Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. EVA PLONK Miss Eva Virlee Plonk, 87, of 612 Hillside Drive, died February 26, 1993 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Sylvania and Mary E. Motley Plonk She was a retired bookkeep- er. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Surviving are one sister, Louise Plonk Hite of Atlanta, GA, and eight nieces and nephews. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Rev. Harwood Smith officiated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. LEONARD D. OGLE GROVER - Leonard D. Ogle, 72, of 124 Rippy Road, died February 23, 1993 in Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Hergus and Elsie Patton Ogle. He was a retired supervisor at Jefferson Yarn Mill. He was a member of Grover Church of God. He was preceded in death by his CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our deep ap- preciation to our many friends, to our pastor, Rev. Harwood Smith and the members of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, the friends o FMC Lithium Division in Gastonia and PPG for the sympathy and thoughtfulness shown us during the lengthy illness and death of our loved one. We thank you for the many cards, the beautiful floral of- ferings, gifts and food sent to her during her illness and at her death. Your love, compassion and friend- ship made her days brighter and happier. We are so grateful to you all. Bonnie Y. Burial was in the church cemetery. SHEILA ALEXANDER ~ Sheila Diane Huffstetler Alexander, 38, of Carolina Gardens Apt. 4, died March 1,199? in Cleveland Memorial Hospital. She was a grocery cashier and attended Harvest Time Ministries Tabernacle of Love. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Eloise Grigg Huffstetler of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Dana A. Putnam of Shelby, Sabrina Alexander of Polkville and Kimberly Alexander of Kings Mountain; one brother, David Huffstetler of Gastonia; three sis- ters, Carolyn Camp of Grover and Brenda Hollifield and Jackie Holder, both of Kings Mountain; and seven grandchildren. Dorothy Patterson Etheridge, 79, of 9009 = White Rock Trail, died February 25, 1993 at 11:10 p.m. in Doctors DALLAS, TX - Health Care. She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late Arthur Hunter and Fairy Long Patterson. Widow of Richard Charlton Etheridge, she was a retired school teacher. She was a member of Kings Mountain's Central United Methodist Church. Surviving are one son, Richard Etheridge of Dallas, Texas; one sis- ter, Mrs. Thelma Smathers of Hendersonville; two grandchil- dren, Eric and John Etheridge; and three nephews, Dr. Donn Freeman of Raleigh, C. E. Warlick of Lovingston, VA and John D. Warlick of Kings Mountain. The funeral was conducted Sunday at Central United Methodist Church by Rev. Bob Little.
