NN Dh & Page-6B-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, March 11, 1993 RN DENTAL HEALTH MONTH - In recognition of Dental Health Month, first graders in Mrs. Blanton's Mrs. Brides' and Mrs. Owens’ classrooms at North School were given a presentation on good dental hygiene by Dr. G.K. Howard. He was assisted by Jenni Wilson. The Kings Mountain parks and Recreation Department will hold its player selection for registered baseball participants the following dates: Coach Pitch (7-8 years old) Saturday, March 27, 11 a.m. at field #2. Minor League (9-10 years old) Saturday, March 20, 10 a.m, ficld #2. Major League (11-12 years old) Saturday, march 20, 2 p.m. field #2. All new players and anyone moving to a different league or age group will need to attend the draft practice. The child's age on August 1, 1993 will be league playing age all year long. ; All participants must be regis- tered before attending the player selection. Lifeguard training class set The Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department is conduct- ing a lifeguard training class at Neisler Natatorium beginning Thursday, April 1 at 7:15 p.m. Lifeguard training is the most current Red Cross certification course for those interested in wa- terfront employment for the sum- mer and is the only certification many pools will acknowledge as a qualification for employment. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by May 25, 1993, a competent swimmer and diver, and have the ability to tread water for one minute. The suggest course length is 27 contact hours for the water and book work portions. An additional six to eight hours is re- quired to complete the new Red Cross Standard First Aid course before the lifeguard certificate is issued. The city of Kings Mountain is taking applications for guard posi- tions at the Deal Street Pool and at ‘Moss Lake for the summer and this course work is required to be con- sidered for employment. There will be a small registration fee charged. Each student will also need to cover Red Cross costs for materials as they are necessary. Hullender of Kings Mountain took first place and tied John Dilling for second in the Mountain Lanes Open Duckpin Bowling Tournament March 6-7 at Dilling Heating. Hullender had a high game of 161 en route to a 491 series to claim first place. He also had a 486 set to tie Dilling for second. Alan Cox of Burlington and Jud Spargo of Gastonia tied for third with 475 sets. John Caveny of Kings Mountain finished seventh and eighth with scores of 474 and 468, and Faye Mitchem of Kings Mountain was ninth with a 465. Other scores in- cluded Jack Barrett 464, Alan Cox 462, R.W. Hullender 461, John Dilling 454, R.W. Hullender 453, Mark Midgette 449, Don Solomon 444, John Dilling 444, Don Solomon 443, Mark Midgette 441, Keith Solomon 440, Don Solomon 436, John Dilling 435, Mark Midgette 433, John Dilling 432, John Dilling 417, Keith Solomon 417, Keith Solomon 400, and Rhonda Solomon 398. Night of splits in duckpins Nothing changed in the Tuesday Night Mixed Duckpin Bowling League at Dilling Heating as all four teams split their matches this week. First place Mark Midgette (30- 14) split with fourth place R.W. Hullender (17-27) while second place John Dilling (22-22) split with third place Jack Barrett (19- 25). High scorer for the week was Jack Barrett, who rolled a 131 line and 397 set. John Dilling led his team with a 148 line and 375 set. R.W. Hullender's 121 line and 343 set led Hullender's team to a split with Midgette. Midgette led his group with a 135-340. Wrestling planned at KM Armory Professional wrestling returns to the Kings Mountain National Guard Armory on March 19 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door. The Italian Stallion, The American G.I., Kildozer, The Harlem Knights and other top stars will be in action. For more information, call the Armory at 739-4741. EAST MATH/SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS - Winners of the recent East School fourth and fifth grade Math and Science Fair are pictured above. MB Adult swim class - Classes are of- fered the first three weeks of each month, 7:45-8:45 pm. on Tuesday and Thursday at Neisler Natatorium. Cost $20 per month. BM Open gym - The Community Center is open every Friday night from 5-9 p.m. B Walkers - Due to cooler weather the gym will be open each Monday- Friday from 8:30-9:45 a.m. MB Table tennis - The table tennis club meets every Wednesday night from 6:30-9 p.m. New members are in- vited. BM Girls softball registration - Registration continues through March 15 for ages 7-15. Thee will be an in- structional league for 7-9 year olds. There is a registration fee and birth cer- tificates must be provided.
