GO FOR THE GOLD - Students in Janet Anthony's fourth grade class at Bethware have been partici- pating in a "Go for the Gold" classroom reading program. Ford Motor Company has an- nounced that Wade Ford, Inc., of Kings Mountain has been selected as one of the nation's outstanding Ford dealerships and will receive Ford Motor Company's Distinguished Achievement Award for Quality. This award is presented "in recognition of progressive manage- ment...sound merchandising prac- tices...high quality standards...and continuing interest in rendering su- perior service to Ford owners." WADE TYNER Lifeguard training classes at KMHS Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department is conduct- ing a Lifeguard Training Class at Neisler Natatorium beginning April 1 at 7:15 p.m. Lifeguard training is the most current Red Cross certification . course for those interested in wa- / terfront employment for the sum- mer and is the only certification y pools will acknowledge as a qualification for employment. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by May 25, a compe- | tent swimmer and diver and have * the ability to tread water for one minute. The suggested course length is 27 contact hours for the water and the book work portions of the course. An additional six to eight hours is required to complete the new Red Cross Standard First Aid course before the Lifeguard certificate is issued. The City of Kings Mountain is taking applications for guard posi- tions at the Deal Street Pool and at Moss Lake for the summer and this course work is required to be con- sidered for employment. There will be a small registration fee charged for the class and each student will need to cover Red - Cross costs for materials as they are necessary. Baseball drafts set at Deal Street Player selection dates for regis- _ tered baseball participants have been announced by Recreation Director David Hancock. The schedule: Coach pitch for ages 7-8 on March 27 at 11 a.m. in Field 2. Minor League for ages 9-10 on March 20 at 10 a.m, in Field 2. Major League, ages 11-12, on March 20 at 2 p.m. in Field 2. All new participants and anyone moving to a different league or age group must attend the draft prac- tice. The child's age on August 1 will be the league playing age all year long, reminds Hancock.
