im wr es ge A f GEORGE I. WOMACK JACKSONVILLE, FL - George I. Womack, 68, died March 6, 1993 at home. The retired executive vice presi- dent of Ring Power Corporation was reared in Kings Mountain and graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1941 where he was active on the football and baseball teams. Son of the late George I. Womack Sr. and Edith Hoover Womack, he was born in Gaston County near Mount Holly. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in engineering. He was a veteran of the United States Air * Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict and flew over 100 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He moved to Jacksonville in 1949 where he met his wife, Pat, and be- gan a career with Lobrano Machinery Company, a Caterpillar dealership. He then went to work for the late L. C. Ringhaver in 1962, who later founded Ring Power Corporation and remained with the company until his retire- ment in 1986. Womack played a major role in building Florida's in- terstates. He was referred to as "Big Daddy" because of his affec- tion with fellow workers. An avid golfer, he played at San Jose Country Club with a regular group of retired friends. He cnce played with Amold Palmer in one of the Pro Amateur Events of the Greater Jacksonville Open which later became The Players’ Championship. He was also a skilled hunter and fisherman. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Denise W. Foster; son-in-law Gary G. Foster Sr. and two grandchildren, Ivy and Gary: Glen: Foster Jr, of Jacksonville; two sisters, Mary Black of Kings Mountain and Margaret Hoyle of Chester, SC The funeral was conducted March 9 at Jacksonville Southside United Methodist Church. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery. Attending the funeral from this area were Mary and Hilliard Black of Kings Mountain; their daughter, Peggy Jackson of Spartanburg,SC; their son, Tommy Black of Lexington; and Margaret Hoyle of Chester, SC. JAMES W. PARROTT James William Parrott, 79, of 200 Fulton St., diced March 12, 1993 in Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby. A native of Tennessce, he was husband of Thelma Harris Parrott and son of the late Benjamin and Mary Owens Parrott. He was a re- tired textile employee and a World War II Army veteran. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are. two stepsons, David Black of Shelby and Michael Black of York, SC; two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Henry of Greenville, SC and Mrs. Rhonda Lambert of Kings Mountain; two stepdaugh- ters, Mrs. Nancy Drennan of Greer, SC and Mrs. Joyce Evans of Kings Mountain; and 14 grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel by Rev. Ed Hutchinson. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. STELLA STEPP SHELBY - Stella Brooks Stepp, 77, of 107-1 Beaver Dam Church Rd. died March 15, 1993 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, she was a homemaker and widow of Rev. E. M. Stepp. She was daughter of the late Joe and Omic Pope Brooks. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, James E. Stepp of Shelby; three daughters, Dell Harris of Kings Mountain, Evelyn Blanton of Shelby and Beatrice Rayfield of McAdenville; one brother, Fred Brooks of Shelby; one sister, Lois Brackett of Shelby; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Two chil- dren, Max E. Stepp and Betty Wall, both of Shelby, preceded their mother in death. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Dr. Paul Sorrells and Dr. Terry Cagle will officiate. Burial will be in the church ceme- tery. CARL WILLIAMS Carl Williams, 82, of 129 McMurry Rd., died March 14, 1993 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. : A native of Cleveland County, he was married to Grace Elizabeth Walker Williams and was son of the late John and Nancy Caroline Tessneer Williams. He was a re- tired farmer and a member of New Camp Creek Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Carl Willis Williams, Jimmy Lee Williams and Samuel Hugh Williams, all of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Iva Williams McSwain, Ruth Williams Decker, Betty Pearl Williams and Bertha Williams Henson, all of Kings Mountain; one brother, Clifford Williams of . Shelby; 12 grandchildren; one step-grandson and nine great- grandchildren. : The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cherokee Street Baptist Church. Rev. Gene Leigh and Rev. Wray Barrett offici- ated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. LUTHER H. HOWELL Luther Henry Howell, 74, of 204 Cansler St., died March 10 1993 at home. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Henry and Lilly England Howell and husband of the late Ethel Mac Peterson Howell who dicd in 1988. He was a retired textile employee and a World War II Army veteran. He was preceded in death by one sis- ter, Lillian Sanders in January 1992. Surviving are one niece, Carolyn Cobb of Kings Mountain; and two sisters, Rose Pearson of Gastonia and Ada Hope of Nebo. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Rev. James Sanders officiated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. NINA DOBBINS Nina Mae Bell Dobbins, 74, of 415 Bethlehem Road, Kings Mountain, died March 9, 1993 at 11:05 p.m. at' Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Sallie Ledford Bell and wife of the late L.Z. Dobbins. She was a retired textile worker. She is survived by two sons, Robert Henry Dobbins and Roger Dale Dobbins of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Margaret Scoggins of Gaffney, S.C.; a brother, Ralph Bell; a sister, Ocie Ware. of Kings Mountain; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Forest G. Scoggins Friday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. . SAMUEL W. HOWELL Samuel W. Howell, 76,0f 107 S. Deal St., died March 15, 1993 at VA Hospital at Oteen. A native of Cleveland County, he was husband of Willie Falls Howell and a retired carpenter. He was the son of the late Phillip Crowder and Nancy Annie Huffstetler Howell. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, Emest Howell of Swannanoa; one brother, John Howell of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Myrtle Wilson of Hendersonville and Jeanette Breakfield of Rock Hill, SC; three grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. He was a member of Central United Methodist church and a decorated veteran of World War II. He was recipient of the Purple Heart. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Little will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemeter . JULIUS CANSLER Julius B. Cansler, 78, of 105 Morris St., died March 7, 1993 at Kings Mountain Hospital He was retired from PPG Industries. He was the son of the late Sidney and Florence Webber Cansler. The funcral was conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Withrow Funcral Home. Rev. Sylvester Roberts officiated. Burial was in Webb Memorial Lawn in Shelby. RALEIGH BROWN Raleigh Clinzo Brown, 69, of 105 N. Watterson St., dicd March 9, 1993 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from Burlington Industries: where he worked for 45 years. He was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge 4. He also served 40 years as sexton at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. He was the son of the late Walter and Nancy Adams Brown, Surviving are his wife, Louise Turner Brown; one daughter, Elizabeth Adams Bell of Charlotte; four brothers, Walter Brown, Edward Brown and Woodrow Brown, all of Kings Mountain, and Withrow Brown of Gastonia.
