Boys Club wins tourneys Kings Mountain Boys Club's 11- and-under basketball team won three tournaments in March, in- cluding the Anderson Invitational which was televised on Cable TV. Shawn Adams and C.J. Hayes of KM were named to the All-tourna- ment team and Adams was selected most valuable player. J Kings Mountain won the Dalla tournament by edging Dallas 38- 30, Cherryville 46-21 and Cherryville 48-24. Hayes scored 12 points, Adams 11 and Steven Hopper 10 in the win over Dallas; Hayes and Adams has 12 each and Vince Young 10 against Cherryville; and Adams scored 11 and Hayes and Josh Floyd 10 each in the championship game. Kings Mountain won the Gastonia YMCA tournament with victories over Winston-Salem, Bradley Center, Gastonia YMCA and Winston-Salem. Adams scored 15 points, hayes 12 and Hopper 10 in the 38-35 win over Winston-Salem in the opening round; Hayes scored 14, Adams 12, Hopper 11 and Young 10 in a 58-22 win over Bradley Center; Adams scored 16, Hayes 15 and Floyd 12 in a 46-36 win over Gastonia YMCA; and Adams Mountaineer cindermen run second The Kings Mountain High boys track team finished second for the third week in a row Thursday at Shelby. The host Lions won the Southwestern 3-A Conference tri- meet with 92 points. Kings Mountain scored 58.5 and R-S Central 31.5. Shon Byers won two first places for the Mountaineers. He threw the shot 41'7" and the discus 124'10". Jeremy Martin was first inthe pole vault with a leap of 11'6" and Clay Corry won the 400 meters in 54.36 seconds. 3 on 3 basketball Area residents are invited to par- ticipate in the 3 on 3 Hot Hoops basketball tournament will be held at the Waymer Park facility in Huntersville April 17-18. The tournament is a one-day competition, depending on which age group a team competes in. Saturday's action will be only for those aged 15-17 years old, with the 18 and over participants play- ing on Sunday. Play starts at 1 p.m. each day, and impressive trophies will be presented to each player on the winning team. His outstanding effort led his team to a four-game sweep over R.W. Hullender. Hullender led his team with a 120-323. First place Mark Midgette had to settle for a split with Jack Barrett. Faye Mitchem had a 111 line and Lordy, 285 set for Midgette and Jack Barrett had a 128-329 and Jud Spargo a 112-323 for Barrett, With just one week of action re- maining, Midgette has first place clinched with a 39-21 record. Dilling is 31-29, Barrett 29-31 and Hullender 21-39. Midgette will meet Hullender, for a roll-off for the championship in two weeks. Lordy Kathy Dixon 1s finally 40 scored 12 and Hayes 10 in a 35-34 win over Winston-Salem in the championship game. In the ‘Anderson Invitational, KM beat Lexington, S.C. 54-10, Newton 56-12, Augusta, Ga. 61-31 and Columbia, S.C. 53-31. Ryan Lowery scored 16 points, Hayes 12 and Kelee Thompson 10 against Lexington; Josh Johnson scored 16, Lowery 12 and Hopper 10 against Newton; Lowery scored 14, Cloninger 12 and Jeremiah Johnson 10 against Augusta; and Cloninger scored 20, Lowery 15 and Josh Johnson 12 against Columbia. Thursday, April 8, 1993 -THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page 7A Senior Games set at G-W The ninth annual Scnior Games for adults 55 and over will begin Monday, April 26, at Gardner- Webb University in Boiling Springs. 3 The program offers annual com- petition as well as year round fit- ness activities, including wellness and workshops and training clinics. The Silver Striders Walking Club and Silver Arts Festival arc also part of the Senior Games program that encourages healthy lifestyles. A person's age on August 1, 1993 will determine the category of competition. Categories are: 55- 59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80- 84, 85-89 ang 90 plus. Men and women do not compete against each other.
