Marine Pfc. Brian A. Johnson, a
1991 graduate of Kings Mountain
High School, has returned from
Okinawa, Japan with 2nd
Battalion, 8th Marines.
The battalion from Second
Marine Division, Camp Lejeune,
participated in training exercises at
a number of training areas in
Okinawa, mainland Japan and in
the Republic of Korea. While for-
ward-deployed in Camp Schwab,
Okinawa, the battalion was en-
gaged in aggressive jungle and
mountain training.

The battalion deployed to
Pohang, Korea where Marines con-
ducted mountain warfare training
at the Korean Marine Corps
Mountain Warfare Center. This in-
cluded repelling, rope bridge oper-
ations and mountaineering skills.
The battalion also participated in
company level training with
Korean Marines form the First
Korean Marine Division.
Elements of the battalion de-
ployed to Camp Fuji, Japan for
live fire exercises utilizing mortars

Bush, will soon know the answer
to that question. He has created a
new line of microwave cookware
specifically for meat.
"Goud Health Microwave

healthier and more effective way
to cook meat in a microwave oven.
The cookware set is available for

"I tried to cook hamburgers on
plates in my microwave and the re-
sult was usually a greasy mess in
the oven and burned spots on the
meat," said Bush. "When I tried to
buy microwave cookware for meat,
I discovered that no one provided
such a project. So, I decided to
make my own."
After contacting microwave
oven manufacturers to learn about
microwave characteristics such as
"hot spots", and working with a
plastics design engineer on a proto-
type of the cookware, Bush filed
for a patent. He was granted the
patent on February 5, 1991.

The grease drips into a second con-
tainer underneath the meat, keep-
ing the microwave clean. Meat
cooks more quickly than it would
on a plate in the microwave. Good -

A 1981 graduate of Kings
Mountain High School, Bush is no
stranger to inventions. In junior
high, he researched a method of
separating oil from shale. "I gave
the idea to a company and it put
the company on the stock market,"
said Bush. "That convinced me that
you can make money from ideas."
Bush's company, New
Technology Marketing Inc., spe-
cializes in problem solving. Other
projects that he is undertaking in-
clude an inexpensive home alarm
system and a Nintendo game.
