3 J & able 3 J © abled Kings Mountain Police Report Thursday, April 15, 1993-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page -11B {ularceny of BC man killed when moped was struck by truck A Bessemer City man was killed instantly Thursday morning when his Moped was struck by a truck at the intersection of Alpine Drive and Northwoods Drive. Sgt. Mark Simpson said a wit- ness said that Ernest Floyd Hector, of Route 2, Box 489, Power Station, Bessemer City, pulled into the path of a 1972 Ford operated by Charles Harvie Crocker, 526 Crocker Road. One person in the truck was in- jured. Crocker told police that he swerved to try to miss the Moped and collided with Hector in the in- tersection. A witness told police that Hector failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and was making a left turn about 6:55 a.m. when the accident happened. Crocker was traveling south on Northwoods. No charges were filed. Pedestrian killed A pedestrian walking west in the westbound lane of U.S. 74 between Kings Mountain and Shelby early Sunday morning was killed when a car hit him from behind. Charles Howard Martin, of 207 Clay St., Lowell, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3;43 a.m. The accident happened about 4 1/2 miles outside Kings Mountain at 3:43 am., according to investi- gating Trooper W.L. Carswell. "Martin had left a party in Kings Mountain earlier that morning," said Carswell. "It was dark and he was wearing dark clothes, there was nothing the driver of the car could do." Carswell identified the driver of the car as Gloria Tate Hardin, who said she didn't see Martin until it was too late. Drug possession Kings Mountain Police charged a 16-year-old male with possession of controlled substance on school property, Kings Mountain High School, and drug paraphernalia. INCIDENTS City of Kings Mountain Electric Department reported tampering of a meter on Morris Street. Handy Pantry reported that two males came into the store and produced a credit card to pay for $53.04 in mer- chandisg. The clerk denied the credit but the groceries were taken out by the two suspects who were later arrested by the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department. Mary Hamrick, 803 Lee St., report- ed larceny of a girls' hot pink bicycle valued at $90. Cecil Campbell, 832 First St., re- ported $300 damage to storm windows. Charles Edward Gill, 102 B East King St., reported that someone kicked in the door of his apartment and tried to take an air-conditioning unit. Express Store, King St., reported larceny of $12 worth of cigarettes. Kings Mountain High School, Phifer Road, reported that two win- dows valued at $300 were broken out. Samuel Nueman, Ebenezer Rd., re- ported larceny of a wallet containing stamps, his ID card and $9 in cash. Rick's Ole Country Store, Cherryville Rd., reported a break-in and larceny of a Gaston Gazette paper box valued at $100. Kathy Davis, 207 Blanton St., re- ported $250 damage to her car while she visited on Bridges Drive. Revco Drug Store reported that a fe- male customer attempted to pass a forged prescription. Johnson said that a 1986 Pontiac operated by Pearl Mauncy McIntosh, 1617 Bethlehem Rd., pulled into the path of a 1992 Cadillac operat- ed by Marjoric Allen Falls, of Grover. Damages were cstimated at $6,500. The two drivers were treated at the hospital for injuries. The accident hap- pened at Phifer Road and West Mountain Street. Ptl. M. F. Proctor said that a 1985 Chevrolet operated by Thaddeus Crawford Bryson, 347 Quality Lane, struck a 1982 Nissan operated by Sophia Lorene Crank, 202 Putnam Place, on Cleveland Avenue. Damages were estimated at $700. APRIL 7 Police cited Willie Lee Adams, 226 Branchwood Circle, with improper turn and safe movement violation after his 1976 Ford struck a 1986 Mazda truck operated by Marion Randall Barber, 906 Sterling Drive. The acci- dent happened at North Cansler and Walker Streets. APRIL 8 Robert Floyd, Route 1, Gastonia, operating a 1983 Buick at East King and Cleveland Ave., rear-ended a 1987 Olds operated by Doris Guffey, Route 2, Cherryville: Guffey was making a right turn into Silver Express. A pas- senger in the Guffey car was mjured. A Kings Mountain school bus and a car hit as both drivers were attempting a right turn at Kings Mountain High School on Phifer Road. No one was in- jured. Sgt. Mark Simpson cited both drivers. Simpson said that Beverly Murdock was operating the 1992 bus and she pulled into the exit in front of Barnes Auditorium and was attempting to " make a right turn onto Phifer Road. Murdock said she had to make a wide right turn and when she approached the stop sign the car operated by Rachel Allen Morris, 133 Mountainside Drive, pulled onto the right side of the bus. Morris told the officer she thought the bus was turning left: As the bus made the right tum it collided with the vehi- cle making a right turn. There was no damage to the bus. The 1986 Morris Ford was damaged $600. A 1975 Chevrolet operated by Cornelius Young, 3400 Margrace Road, struck a 1977 Chrysler operated by Joy Pennington, Hillcrest Mobile Home Park. APRIL 9 Ptl Rena Rikard cited Donald Howard Lovett Jr. with stop sign viola- tion after a wreck on West Gold Street. Lovett, operating a 1978 Chevy van, pulled into the path of a 1988 Ford op- erated by Barbara Putnam Holcomb. Damages were estimated at $6500. A passenger in Holcomb's car was hurt. A car operated by Angel Charmaine Fowler, 111 Wildbrook Drive, rear ended a 1988 Nissan operated by Lida MIKE MAYNE ¢ KEITH MAYNE OWNERS Bess, 109 Wave Rd., on North Cansler Street. APRIL 10 Three people were hurt in a one-ve- hicle wreck in which the driver was . cited for reckless driving and alcohol use and arrested for reckless driving, DWI and no operator's license. Ptl. Lisa Capps said that Kenneth Hart, 1848 Hartsford Drive, Gastonia, was traveling west on Margrace Road and ran off the right side of the road and hit a utility pole. The three injured people, including the driver, were treated at the hospital. Capps said there was undeter- mined damage to the 1983 Dodge be- longing to Rebecca M.
