Thursday, June 10, 1993 -THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page-1B . ® Mountain Fest draws very small crowd Mountain Fest could be canceled next summer due to the small turnout Saturday. "I don't know what else we could have done to get the interest of pco- ple but we just didn't have the Kings Mountain support,” said a disap- pointed Chamber of Commerce secretary Lucille Williams. She said she is recommending to the officers and directors to skip next year Lo give more time to find out what folks want at the festival. President Wade Tyner said that the 49 entries in the car show were cx- ceptional and the most outstanding he had seen. Tyner was also well pleased with the turnout of 90 runners in the early morning run. Ronnic Whetstine headed up the car show and Geeper Howard headed up the run. The popular model train exhibit was canceled Friday night by the sponsoring Greenville, SC group. Historical Museum artifacts in the old post office drew appreciative audiences. Festival-goers bought old Centennial plates and other memo- rabilia. Crafters and food vendors offered high quality items but closed up by mid afternoon due to the lack of customers. Kids had fun and even the weatherman cooperated. Overcast skies in the early hours were replaced by hot sunshine. "Mink" opened and closed the festival. A new band,"Machinc." played hard rock to a cheering section of icenagers ane adults.
