Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, June 17, 1993 Obituaries GUSSIE HUFFSTETLER Gussie Rebekah Huffstetler, 90, of 615 North Piedmont Ave., rec- tired Kings Mountain school teach- er, died June 12, 1993 at home. "Miss Gussie," as she was affec- tionately called, taught in the Kings Mountain school system 42 years. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Mary Hord Huffstetler. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was a former Girl Scout leader and a member of the Altar Guild. She graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College, Class of 1926, and was a member of Alpha Kappa Gamma sorority. Surviving are one sister, Bonnie Kate Lynn of Shelby; one niece Vivian Toplin of the home; one great niece, Betty Furr and several other nieces and nephews. The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church by her pastor, Rev. Harwood Smith. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. JAMES L. RHYNE James Lewis Rhyne, 57, of 128 Wiggins AVenue, Kings Mountain died June 10, 1993 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Charles Rhyne and Katherine Rhyne Boone. He was a member of Oak View Baptist Church. He is survived by three brothers, Thomas Rhyne and George Rhyne of Belmont, and Charles Rhyne of Eden; and two sisters, Linda Boone of Lawndale and Frances Morrison of Shelby. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Ralph Sparrow Saturday at 4 p.m. at Oak View Baptist Church. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. TED BACHMAN JUNEAU, AK. - Theodore W. "Ted" Bachman, 76, of 4402 Columbia Drive, died June 10, 1993 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of the late Theodore Jacob and Hazel Bodinus Bachman. He was retired from the State of Alaska Department of Fish and ‘Game. He is survived by four sons, Ted M. Bachman of Anchorage, Ak., Robert Scott of Kenai, Ak., Tom Scott of Ketchikan, Ak., and Dale Scott of Goldendale, Washington; a sister, Ruth Borger of Tenakee Springs, Ak.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, N.C. Affiliate, 3109 Topperwood Ct., Suite 123, Raleigh, “N.C. 27604. ROY RUFUS ROBBINS GROVER - Roy Rufus Robbins, 66, of 109 Dogwood Dr., died June 9, 1993. A native of Cleveland County, he was the husband of Ruth Head Robbins and son of the late Rufus and Ida Heavner Robbins. He was a retired maintenance employee of Anvil Knitwear. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Linda Smart of Kings Mountain and Janet Knox of Grover; three brothers, Jim Robbins and Buren Robbins of Grover and Yates Robbins of Boiling Springs; four sisters, Lizzie Mae Walker and Frances Wall of Grover, Myrtle Head of Lawndale and Mozelle Shehan of Shelby; four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church. Rev. James Sanders and Rev. Jerry Morrow of- ficiated. Burial was in Grover Cemetery. KM bank declares dividend First Carolina Federal Savings Bank announced today that its Board of Directors had declared a dividend of $1.00 per share on its common stock payable to its share- holders on June 7, 1993. This was the first dividend de- clared by the Savings Bank since its conversion from mutual to stock ownership in April of 1991. President Gary H. Whitaker said that the Bank's fiscal year cnded March 31, 1993, successfully and that the Bank was pleased to be able to share its financial success with its stockholders. The Banks' home office is in Kings Mountain with offices in Shelby and Gastonia. ERNEST BROWN BURLINGTON - Erncst "Brownie" Brown, 77, of 700 Trail 3, died June 12, 1993 at home. He was the husband of the late Inez Thompson Brown and the late Maxine Hunley Brown and was the son of the late Anderson and Matilda Johnson Brown. He was a native of Cosby, TN and retired manager of Bill Price Buick. He spent many years as an indcpen- dent automobile dealer and also worked at Virginia Mills as a sales manager. He was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church and a combat veteran and Warrant Officer with the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by three sons, Michael C. Brown of Elon College, Gurney Irvin Lashley Jr. of Alameda, CA; and Kirby D. Lashley of Roswell, GA; two sis- ters, Eula B. Shults and Nora B. Valentine of Cosby, TN; three brothers, Homer Brown of Lawrenceburg, TN, Jack Brown of Kings Mountain and Billy "Fred" Brown of Gastonia; and two grand- children. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rich & Thompson Chapel by his pastor, Rev. Bill Cottingham, and his for- mer pastor, Rev. Bill Wolfe. Burial was in Alamance Memorial Park. SPEAKS TO STUDENTS - Fred Byers of Shelby, a poet and owner of his own greeting card company, recently spoke to Kings Mountain High School students during a program in the school library. English workshop English teachers at Kings Mountain High School are organiz- ing the English curriculum in a week of special workshops that be- gan last Wednesday. The program includes three ad- ditional classes in honors English for grades 9-11 which compares to the 12th grade AP English course. In addition to drawing up what English teachers will teach they are also selecting literature for each grade level. The lesson plans will be avail- able to current and new teachers, according to Betsy Wells, head of the English Department, who with Associate Supt. for Education Dr. Jane King and consultant in the AG program Susan Patterson have been leading the course.
