HARRIS BLAIR STANLEY - Dr. William Harris Blair, 80, of Total Living Center, formerly of Kings Mountain, dicd June 22, 1993 at his home. A native of Blairsville, S.C., he was the son of the latc Mason H. and Kate White Blair. He was a re- tired minister in the Associate "Reformed “= Presbyterian “> Church. : Pr : Blair retired in 1980 with 51 years in the ministry. He held pastorates at New Sterling, New Amity, Stony Point and Elk Shoals ARP churches near Statesville, Chalmers Memorial and Glenwood ARP churches in Charlotte, and Linden ARP Church in Gastonia. He was a member of Boyce Memorial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain. Dr. Blair was educated in York County, S.C., and was a 1930 grad- uate of Sharon High School. He earned his A.B. degree in 1935 at Erskine College, and his B.D. de- gree in 1937 from Erskine Theological Seminary. He was or- dained by Catawba Presbytery at Sharon, S.C., on April 14, 1937. He attended Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, NJ - Institute of Theology in the summer of 1950 and 1955. He was listed in Marquis Who's Who in the South and Southwest (Volume 6) in 1959 and received his honorary D.D. degree from Erskine College in 1962. He served the General Synod on the Board of Publications, Board of Christian Education, Board of Church Extension, Trustee of the General Board, Board of Trustees of Erskine College, and Executive Secretary of the New Life Movement from 1952-1956. At the time of his death, he served on the Board of Annuities and Relief. He served First Presbytery as Moderator in 1938 and as Stated Clerk from 1949-52. He was hon- ored with a Fifty Year Plaque by First Presbytery in October, 1987. He was chairman of the Trustees and many committees and boards, and served as Director of Clergy Affairs in Mecklenburg County while holding pastorates at Charlotte churches. He is survived by his wife, Floy Drum Blair of Stanley; two sons, Dr. W. Charles Blair of Charlotte and Dr. Howard W. Blair of Valdese; two sisters, Miss Mary Catherine Blair of Gastonia and Jean Chason of Sharon, S.C.; and six grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Boyce Memorial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Friday at 2 p.m. Dr. Harry Schutte officiated. Our prayers will be with you. Charles Wilson & Family GEORGE S. HOFFMAN BESSEMER CITY - George S. Hoffman, 81, of Rout ¢3, Box 534, Bess Town Road, died June 22, 1993 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late John A. and Ola McAllister Hoffman. He was a retired machinist with Warner Swasey Inc. and was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Penner Hoffman; a son, Jerry Hoffman of Eden; four daughters, Doris Toncy of Bessemer City, Rachel Broome of Gastonia, Helen Clemmer of Dallas and Linda Navey of Lincolnton; a brother, Claude Hoffman of Holden Beach; a sister, Katherine Sarvice of Kings Mountain; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Dan Messer Thursday at 3 p.m. at Mt. Bculah Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. LUCINDA T. BROWN Lucinda Tigler Brown, 91, 118 Compact School Rd., died June 18, 1993 at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia. She was a native of York County, SC, daughter of the late Madison and Sina Meeks and wid- ow of Sam Brown. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Heroines of Jericho Ada Chapter 7. Survivors include two sons, Andrew W. Brown Sr. and Sam Brown Jr. of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Alberta B. Hunter and Juanita B. Childers of Kings Mountain, Anell Gill of Gastonia and Genester B. Jackson of Durham; two sisters, Iney T. Wright of Clover, SC and Dorethea T. Murray of York; 21 grandchil- dren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 37 great-great grandchildren. The funeral was conducted June 21 at'4 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church in York. Burial was in the church cemetery. BEATRICE DIXON GROVER - Beatrice Jackson Dixon, 72, of 245 Mallard Dr., died June 25, 1993 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Sally Turner Jackson. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Earnest Dixon; four sons, Earnest James Dixon of Gaffney, S.C., Kenneth Dixon of Patterson Springs, Michael Dixon of Earl and Gene Dixon of Grover; two daughters, Louise Dixon of Grover and Mary Evalene Dover of Shelby; 20 grandchildren; and sev- en great-grandchildren., A graveside service was con- ducted by the Rev. He was a retired textile worker and a member of First Assembly of God, Kings Mountain. He is survived by four sons, Wayne Childers of Kings Mountain, Charles Childers of Moore, S.C., Frank Childers of Manning, S.C., and Harry Childers and Cartersville, Ga.; a daughter, Lillie Mae Ruff of Kings Mountain; a sister, Susie Crawford of Belmont; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. MARY TREADWAY CRAMERTON - Mary Katherine Hord Treadway, 81, of 286 Park Street, died June 28, 1993 at her home. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Lester C. Hord and Minnie Baldwin Hord, and wife of the late L.E. "Country" Treadway. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Cramerton. She is survived by her son, Don Treadway of Gastonia; three broth- ers, Tim Hord of Charlotte, L.C. Hord of Gastonia, and Paul Hord of Kings Mountain; a sister, Jessie Pennington of Winston-Salem; her ‘brother-in-law, G.M. Treadway; two sisters-in-law, Beatie Treadway and Edna Grubbs; two grandsons, Mark and Keith; a step- daughter, Dedee; four great-grand- children, Chasity, Donald, Kim and Lisa; one step great-grandchild, Jeff; one step great-great-grand- child, Jeremy; and her companion, Mary Kendall. A native of Kings Creek, S.C, she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Belle Horn Dover. She was a retired textile worker. She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Shcppherd of Hickory Grove, S.C.; a brother, James Dover of Gastonia; a sister, Bertha Patterson of Kings Mountain; six grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. A graveside service was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery. WILLIE SISK Willie Thomas Sisk, 75, of 508 Gantt Street, Kings Mountain, dicd June 28, 1993 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Jim and Ola Allen Sisk. He was a retired textile worker and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by a brother, Paul Sisk of Morganton. A graveside service will be con- ducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery. The fam- ily will receive friends from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. at Harris Funeral Home.
