JONAS MCCRAW
Jonas Leroy McCraw, 75, of 104
South Tracy Street, Kings
Mountain, died July 5, 1993 at
Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County,
he was the son of the late Herbert
and Daisy Lovelace McCraw and
husband of the late Clara Welch
McCraw. He was a retired carpen-
ter, a member of Boyce Memorial
ARP Church, and a U.S. Army vet-
eran.
He is survived by a daughter,
Teresa Pendleton of Kings
Mountain; a sister, Estclle
McNeely of King Mountain; and
two grandchildren.
The funcral was conducted by
the Rev. Bruce Davis Wednesday
at 11 a.m. at Harris Funeral Home.
Burial was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.
GLENN LAMAR MOSS
ASHEVILLE - Glenn Lamar
Moss, 73, of 1314 Tunnel Rd., died
June 29, 1993 at Memorial Mission
Hospital.
A native of Grover, he was the
son of the late Robert Delmar and
Beulah Camer Moss. He was a re-
tired motel manager.
Surviving are four sisters, Ruby
Moss of Asheville, Frances
Nordfelt of Milbrae, GA, Sadie
Padget of Helens, GA and Bonnie
Kincaid of Cummins, GA.
The graveside service was held
Friday at 11 a.m. at Grover
Cemetery. Rev. Dale Thornburg of-
ficiated.
OPAL L. CARROLL
Opal Lingerfelt Carroll, 69, of
206 Margaret St., died June 29,
1993 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, she
was widow of Charles Lewis
Carroll and daughter of the late
John Frank and Crettie Summers
Lingerfelt. She was a retired textile
employee.
Surviving are three sons, Melvin
Carroll and Larry Carroll of Kings
Mountain and Charles Carroll of
Bella Vista, ARK; three daughters,
Brenda Hodge, Shirley Wells and
Carolyn Burton * of Kings
Mountain; four brothers, Johnny
Lingerfelt of Tavares, FL, Carl
Lingerfelt of Cowpens, SC, and
Lester Lingerfelt and Calvin
Lingerfelt of Kings Mountain;
three sisters, Aileen Proctor of
Cherryville, Ruby Dixon of Kings
Mountain and Iva Beam of Lady
Lake, FL; 20 grandchildren; and
eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
Friday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel.
Rev. Glenn Johnson officiated.
Burial was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.
GEORGE B. HOPE
George Buster Hope, 65, of
Northwood Health: Care, Shelby, |
died July 4, 1993 at Northwood
- Health Care.
A native of Kings Mountain, he
was son of the late George and
Maggie Humphries Hope. He was
a retired textile employee. He at-
tended North Carolina School for
the Deaf in Morganton.
Surviving are three sons, Johnny
Ray Hope of Shelby, George Hope
III of Dallas, Texas and Chester
Hope of Kings Mountain; two
daughters, Kay Hope Evans and
Tennie Hope of Dallas, Texas;
three brothers, Rev. Bob Hope and
Don Hope of Kings Mountain and
Steve Hope of Dallas; four sisters,
Pauline Kimbrell, Mildred
Herndon, Doris Grigg, all of Kings
Mountain, and Zeldia Anna Carr of
Huntersville.
The funeral was conducted
Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Harris
Chapel by Rev. Don Denton.
Burial was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.

JULIAN B. WRIGHT
GAFFNEY, SC - Julian Bryan
Wright, 85, of 400 Vernon St., died
July 3, 1993 at Upstate Carolina
Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he
was the son of the late John Erwin
and Carric Smith Wright.
Retired after 37 years in law cn-
forcement, he was Sheriff of
Cherokee County for the last 20
years of his career, moving up the
ranks in the department from
deputy.
A former Gaffney Police Chief,
he was former president of the
South Carolina Sheriff's
Association. He was honored as
Sheriff of the Year in South
Carolina in 1968. A former
Cherokee County Councilman, he
was a charter member of the
Civitan Club and a former presi-
dent. He was an active member of
the First Baptist Church and a
World War II veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret
Kirby Wright; one son, Julian
Kirby Wright of Gaffney; two
daughters, Kay Wright Grigg of
‘Gaffney and Mary Julia Wright
Roberts of Elberton, GA; and five
grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
Monday at 11 a.m. at Shuford-
Hatcher Chapel by Rev. Bobby
Morrow. Burial was in Oakland
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy Wright,
Collis Kirby, Danner Abernathy,
Bobby Wright, Max Clary, Tim
Childers, Ricky Wright, Jeff
Wright, Bucky Simmons and Keith
Richardson. :
VELDA OWENS
Velda Lorene Owens, 59, of 551
Bethlehem Rd., died July 3, 1993
at home.
A native of Cleveland County,
she was the daughter of the late
William J. and Emmett Eliza
Herndon and was widow of J. B.
Owens. She was a member of
Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She is survived by one brother,
Elmer Yarbro of Kings Mountain.
The funeral was conducted
Sunday at 4 p.m. at Harris Chapel .
Rev. Harold Beam and Rev,
Russell Fitts officiated. Burial was
in Bethlehem Baptist Church
Cemetery.
LOUISE H. MOORE
Louise Hannon Moore, 60, of
106 Churchill Dr., died July 2,
1993 at Carolinas Medical Center
in Charlotte.
A native of Blacksburg, SC, she
was a spinner at Textile Bowling
Green Spinning in Bowling Green,
SC. She was widow of Ralph
Moore. She was the daughter of the
late Marion and Ethel Martin
Hannon.
Surviving are one son, Lake
Bolin of Kings Mountain; one
daughter, Barbara Allen of Kings
Mountain; three sisters, Della
Howe of Clover, SC, Mary Lee
Braham of Charlotte and Helen
Humphries of Kings Mountain;
and three grandchildren.
The graveside service was con-
ducted Monday at 11 a.m. at
Canaan Methodist Church
Cemetery in Smyma, SC.

Charles "Mike" Foster, 34, of
347 Broad St., Portsmouth, VA,
died July 3, 1993 at 4 a.m. at
Gaston Memorial Hospital in
Gastonia.
A native of Bessemer City, he
was son of Charles Foster of
Orlando, FL and Sybil Foster
Huffstickler of Bessemer City and
stepson of Bill Huffstickler of
Bessemer City. He was employed
by Doughtic's Food Distribution
Inc. He served in the U.S. Marine
Corps from 1982-86. He was
Baptist.
Surviving, in addition to his par-
ents and stepfather, are two broth-
ers, Eddie Foster of Dallas and |
Mark Huffstickler of Bessemer
City; three sisters,” Teena
Huffstickler of Kings Mountain,
Kathy Johnson of Cherryville and
Becky Whitehurst of Hampton, VA
The funcral was conducted

P. Hudson, 73, dicd June 26, 1993
at Medical Center.
Hc was a native of Rutherford
County, son of the late Frank and
Florida Hudson. He was a former
resident of Kings Mountain. He
was Baptist.
Surviving are his wife, Beulah
Bookout Hudson; one daughter,
Joy Larson of Bell Glade, Fl.; two
grandchildren; one brother,
Cornelius Hudson of Mill Spring;
one sister, Louella Short of Kings
Mountain; two half-brothers, Ben
Hudson of Orlando and Henry
Hudson of Norfolk, VA.
The funeral was conducted June
28 in Pompano Beach.

Free business counseling sessions in Shelby
The Small Business and
Technology Development Center at
Western Carolina University's
Center for Improving Mountain
Living will offer free business
counseling sessions in Shelby on
Thursdays, July 8 and 22.
The sessions will be held at the
Chamber of Commerce. The July 8
session will be held from 1-4 p.m.,
and the July 22 scssion from 9
a.m.-12 noon. Call 487-8521 for an
appointment.
The sessions involve one-to-one
counscling with an experienced
counsclor familiar with small busi-
ness operations and problems. The
onc-hour sessions are confidential
and open to individuals who oper-
atc existing businesses or those in-
terested in starting a small busi-
ness. Services provided include
Startup counseling, assistance in
preparing business and financial
plans to support loan applications,
marketing surveys, patent search
and product feasibility assessment.
Also available are sessions on
how to do business with the federal
government through the
Procurement Technical Assistance
Program.
