The awards’ cake was unique because it was a colorfully decorated plastic ring. TIMOTHY LEE BELL Timothy Lee Bell celebrates birthday Timothy Lee Bell, son of Tim and Dawn Bell of Kings Mountain, was three years old August 28. He celebrated with a Ninja Turtle party at his home. Among his presents was a Big Foot truck from his:mom’ and dad. Guests attending the party were his grandparents, Vickie and Bob Williams and Carl and Martha Bell; and his great-grandparents, Mamie Bell and Odell and Ruth Smart. KALA BUCHANAN Kala Buchanan celebrates birthday Kala Ryan Buchanan celebrated her fifth birthday August 7 at her home. Balloon sculptor and magician Bret Blackshear of Charlotte enter- tained guests. A mermaid decorated birthday cake was cut and served with ice cream, potato chips, fruit and juice. Treat bags and balloon figures were distributed. Guests were Sumiah Baraquony, Laura Cloninger, Lauren Gaffney, Maddison Keeter, Ashton Orders, Maegan and Stacie Spicer, Trey Robinson and Nicholas Warren. Mountaineer Day is October 2 Fireworks will dazzle fans at the Kings Mountain Mountaincers' home football game October 1 and signal the start of Mountaincer Days in Kings Mountain. Mayor Scott Neisler said the fireworks display will be part of the city's celebration with the schools of City Day at the ball game. The mayor asked, and the Council concurred, in the plans for the event. Fireworks are usually part of Mountainecr Day festivities but held on the cvening of Blanton rest home Helen Covington Blanton, 89, of Kings Mountain, was honored as "Resident of the Month” recently at Countrytime Rest Home in Crowders Mountain where she has resided since March. Born October 2, 1904 in Mount Holly, she is the daughter of the late Dan and Pearl Covington and oldest of three children. Her grand- father was the superintendent of a Mountaincer Day. The board approved a resolution proclaiming Mountaincer Day in Kings Mountain October 2. In other actions involving the Parks & Recreation Commission agenda items, the board authorized the Dixic Youth bascball state tour- nament proceeds to be carmarked for the youth sports program and the proceeds from the wrestling event for gym equipment. Recreation Director David Hancock said he was well pleased with the recent tournament and large cotton mill in Wadesboro un- til his death in 1943. Blanton entered Trinity College in Durham, now Duke University, and graduated in 1926. She is a member of Duke Alumni Association and attended her 50th reunion in 1976. Mrs. Blanton taught French in high school before her marriage to the; late C.D. Blanton, who was a Bridges named employee of month A Kings Mountain woman has been honored as Employee of the Month at Countrytime Rest Home. Wendy Bridges, daughter of Floyd and Sandy Bridges, graduat- ed from Kings Mountain High School and was a cosmetology stu- dent.
