MAUNEY CHARLOTTE - William Sidney Mauncy, native of Cherryville and brother-in-law of Ila Morrow McIntyre of Kings Mountain, died September 19, 1993 at Charlotte Presbyterian Hospital, He was married to Bessie Murphy Mauncy and was a retired planner for Southern Railway. He was a member of Plaza Presbyterian Church and active in the church and community. Surviving, in addition to his wife and sister-in-law, arc one son, William Murphy Mauncy of Charlotte; one daughter, Evelyn Griffith of Charlotte; six grandchil- dren; one sister, Ila Turner of Dallas and one brother, Coy H Mauncy of Cherryville. He was preceded in death last ycar by a daughter, Mabel Cook. The funcral was conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funcral Home on Shamrock drive. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery. FRED DOUGLAS TATE Fred Douglas Tate, 63, of 363 Mary's Grove Rd., died September 19, 1993 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cherokee County, _ SC, he was the son of the late Press and Sallie Poole Tate. He was mar- ried to Ola Mae Adams Tate. A home construction worker, he was a member and trustee and sang in the Male Chorus of Ellis Chapel Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sisters, Hattie Mae Tate of Shelby and Viola Coleman of California. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. in Ellis Chapel Baptist Church in Boiling Springs. Burial will be in the church ceme- tery. MARVETTA BELL Marvetta Leach Bell, 84, died September 13, 1993 in Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Hickory Grove, SC, she was daughter of the late Alice Henry and Joe Leach: She was widow of Roy Bell Sr. and was preceded in death by a daughter, Mozell Bell Kilgore. She was a member of Long Branch First Baptist Church, a deaconess, mem- ber..and treasurer of Adult Missionary Circle and a member of Heroines of Jericho Star Lodge 5 in Grover. Surviving are five sons, Joe W. Bell and Jerry C. Bell of Grover, Roy Bell Jr. of Kings Mountain and Harry Bell and Broadus Bell of Bridgeport, Ct; seven daughters, Helen Smith of Grover, Mary Alice Johnson, Nancy Wilson and Bertha Lockhart of Kings Mountain, Eliza Roberts of Shelby, Ruth Bell of South Norwalk, Ct. and Dorothy Bell of Bridgeport, Ct; 58 grand- children; 111 great- grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at Long Branch First Baptist Church in Grover by Rev Larry Dixon. Burial was in the church cemetery. ANNA H. WINGO Anna Belle Hill Wingo, 81, of 709 Oakland Street, died September. 17, 1993 “iin Countrytime Rest Home. A native of Camden, SC, she was the widow of Ralph J. Wingo Sr. and a daughter of the late Johnny Wofford and Florrie Arrants Hill. She was a homemak- er and attended Resurrection Lutheran Church. Surviving are one son, Ralph J. "Jack Wingo" Jr. of Kings Mountain; one sister, Florrie Corn of Spartanburg, SC and two grand- children. The graveside service was con- ducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Sunset Memorial Park in Spartanburg, SC. Rev. John Futterer officiated. BESSEMER CITY - Floyd Edwin Grigg Jr., 61, 118 Sunsct Lane, dicd September 16, 1993 in Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Floyd E. Grigg Sr. and Mary Sansing Grigg. Hc was marricd to Vickic Hager Grigg. Grigg was retired from the US Army after 20 years. He was a re- tired twisting supervisor at Firestone Plant in Gastonia. He served in the U.S. Army in Korca and Victnam and was a member of VEW Post 9337 in Gastonia. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are six sons, Eddic Grigg, John Grigg Calvin Grigg and David Grigg, all of Augusta, GA Jimmy Grigg and John Hargis, both of Bessemer City; one daugh- ter, Mary Louise Grigg of Gastonia; three brothers, Everette Grigg of Kings Mountain, Dewey Earnest Grigg of Bessemer City and Floyd Douglas Grigg of Gastonia; one sister, Patricia Ann Buchanan of Gastonia; and nine grandchildren. The funeral was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sunset Lane Baptist Church in Bessemer City. Rev. Ronnie Hinson and Rev. David Hardin officiated. Burial was in Westview Gardens. A native of Cleveland County, he was son of the late Alfred Bryant and Ila Bell Slayton. He was married to Margie Tomlin Slayton. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Gene Slayton of Kings Mountain and Randy * Slayton of Seattle, Washington; three daughters, Debra Slayton, Susan Hamrick and Candy Slayton, all of Kings Mountain; and four grandchildren. He was a Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired Spin- ning doffer. The funeral was conducted Monday at 3 p.m. at Harris Chapel by Rev. John Heath. A native of Cherokee County, SC, she was a homemaker and wife of Wynn B. Huskey. She was daughter of the late Robert Andrew and. Daisy Mullinax Dover. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Bob Huskey of Hendersonville and Dean Huskey of Spartanburg; two sisters, Perline Rollins of Grover and Ruby Jenkins of Shelby; six grandchildren; and scven great- grandchildren. FLORENCE KELTZ WAYNESVILLE - Florence England Keltz, 67, of 409 Government St., died September 17, 1993 in Waynesville Hospital. A native of Haywood County, she had lived in Kings Mountain for many ycars before she retired in Waynesville. She was wife of William W. Keltz Jr. and daughter of the late William and lvy Franklin Price. She was a member of Panther Creck Baptist Church and a former member of Kings Mountain's Second Baptist Church. She retired in 1987 after many years of employment at Parkdale Mills in Kings Mountain. Surviving , in addition to her husband, are onc sister, Annc Rathbone of Waynesville; onc brother, Jesse Price of Hazelwood and nicces and nephews. The funcral was conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Wells Funcral Home by Rev. Bill Turner and Rev. Ronald Greene. Burial was in Panther Creck Baptist Church Cemetery. TED BENNIE WILLIAMS Ted Bennie Williams, 74, the first African American Bessemer, City councilman, died September 12,1993, He was the son of the late Betty Webber Williams and Rev. Fred Herndon and was employed at Bessemer City Central School. He was a retired employee of Firestone Textiles and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. James Baptist Church for 40 years, an usher, trustee, superin- tendent of the Sunday School, deca- con and song lcader for Senior Choir. He served as police com- missioner during his 15 year tenure on Bessemer City council after his election in 1969. Williams was a member of St. James Lodge and Worshipful Master for 10 years. He was past Grand Master of St. James Grand Lodge 16 years. He was a member «of Royal Arch Masons, consistory, = ue Shriner, Order of Eastern Star, = “Heroines of Jericho and ‘Grand, | [3000 Lecturer for the State of North’ Carolina. He was responsible for the purchase and restoration of Old Stewart Elementary School, his- toric landmark in Bessemer City, and presently the Grand Temple for St. James Grand Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Sherleen Gilmore Williams; one son, Benny Lee Williams; two sisters, Myrtle Williams of Bessemer City and Elouise Jackson of Kings Mountain; one foster brother, Dean Herndon of Kings Mountain; three stepdaughters, Barbara Ijames of Gastonia, Teri Gilmore of Atlanta and Juanita Walton of Charlotte; one stepson, Henry Gilmore of Kings Mountain; onc uncle, Bennie Webber of Bessemer City; two aunts, Annie Robinson of Bessemer City and Elouise Webber of Gastonia; his mother-in-law Georgia Carter; two grandchil- dren; four step-grandchildren; four nieces and four nephews. The funeral was conducted September 15 at 4 p.m. at St. James Grand Temple in Bessemer City by his pastor, Rev. A. Waync Love. Burial was in Kelly's Chapel Cemetery in Bessemer City.
