succeed. I do. I want to help the
change."
Health care and a proposed tax
icerease is what worries citizens
the most, said McMillan who has
met with President Clinton twice to
offer constructive suggestions 10
“alterations to the proposed health
plan.
McMillan supports the
President's North American Free
Trade agreement which faces op-
position in the House from his own
party where Democrats are critical
of the deal. ;
“I can understand the emotional
fear that people have but the defeat
of this will diminish the U. S. ca-
pacity to compete because we'll be
making products Mexicans can
buy. Mexicans won't be able to pay
for them, of course, unless we cn-
courage Mexico's economic
growth."
McMillan predicts North
Carolinians won't lose jobs if the
trade pact is approved, discounting
doubts of opponents such as Texas
billionaire Ross Perot who says the
plan would d¢stroy the middle
class and send jobs to Mexico.

KMPD Chief Goforth warns motorists
With North Carolina's new,
tougher drunk-driving law taking
effect on October. 1, Kings
Mountain Police Chief Warren
Goforth is encouraging drivers to
skip ‘onc more for the road’ and to
opt for 'no more for the road’ in-
stead.
Beginning October 1, the blood-
alcohol content level for driving
while impaired (DWI) and related
offenses in the state drops from .10
percent to .08 percent. He hopes
that publicity about the law will
discourage potential drunk drivers
from getting behind the wheel.
"The risk of being charged with
DWI is now cven higher than be-
fore," said Goforth. "This risk--
when coupled with the severe emo-
tional and financial losses that
accompany alcohol-related acci-
dents hopefully will force drivers
to consider seriously the conse-
they drink.”
