Cherokee Street Baptist Church was the setting September 3 for the
wedding of Pamela Denise White and Jonathan Shane Jackson.
Rev. George E. Leigh officiated the ceremony for which the wedding
music was presented by Brian Morrison and Laura Williams.
The bride, given in marriage by her parents, wore a formal white satin
gown designed with high lace neckline and fitted bodice enhanced by
pearls and sequins and V-d back. The skirt extended into a Chapel-
length train. She carried a bouquet of fushia and light pink and white
roses, daisies and carnations.
Angela Richardson of Grover was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were
Melodie Springs of Shelby and Cindy Morrison of Kings Mountain.
All the attendants wore fushia pink tea-length dresses designed with
fitted bodices and open backs. They carried a single fushia pink rose

Since moving back home, I have been involved in many school-related issues and
‘activities. Over the past two years, I have attended the majority of the School Board
meetings and have gained a good understanding of the policy-making process of our
school system. The superintendent, administrative staff, teachers, and students are
directly affect by the policies passed at the School Board meetings. Decisions made by
our Board direct the day-to-day operation of the schools, from smoking on school cam-
puses, to how much money there will be to spend on textbooks, té What videos your
children will see on the television at school. These decisions are important. Our elected
officials need to know they are supported by and accountable to the paresis and citizens
I believe citizens and parents should have greater opportunity to influence the direc-
tion of our schools. This input should be considered prior to the final vote by the School
Board. I would like to see a better forum for the School Board meetings, where there is
exchange of information and ideas with the citizens before important, final decisions are
I know there are many parents who are involved by helping with homework, work-
ing with the PTO, and assisting with many other school activities. Even with this com-
mitment, there is much more that we will have to do to turn the tide in our schools. We,
as parents, have to be involved from the highest decision-making level - the School
Board - all the way to the individual classroom. Parent involvement is the key to better
education for our children. If elected, I will seek to be a parent representativ ¢ to the

School Board elections. Just like you, I want to
know where a candidate stands before I commit
my support and vote. To help you make an in-
formed decision about my candidacy for the at-
large School Board seat, I will be writing weekly

First of all, let me introduce myself and my
family. I am a native of Kings Mountain and
graduated from Kings Mountain High School in
1973. After graduation, I attended North Caro-
lina State University. Since graduating, I have
worked in the private consulting engineering

large transportation and civil projects, such as
dams, tunnels, bridges, and highways. My wife,
Joy, is a homemaker and is also a native of Kings
