My family and I moved back to Kings Mountain three years ago after spending about seven years in Matthews (and the Charlotte- Mele Since moving back home, I have been involved in many school-related issues and ‘activities. Over the past two years, I have attended the majority of the School Board meetings and have gained a good understanding of the policy-making process of our school system. The superintendent, administrative staff, teachers, and students are directly affect by the policies passed at the School Board meetings. Decisions made by our Board direct the day-to-day operation of the schools, from smoking on school cam- puses, to how much money there will be to spend on textbooks, té What videos your children will see on the television at school. These decisions are important. Our elected officials need to know they are supported by and accountable to the paresis and citizens I believe citizens and parents should have greater opportunity to influence the direc- tion of our schools. This input should be considered prior to the final vote by the School Board. I would like to see a better forum for the School Board meetings, where there is exchange of information and ideas with the citizens before important, final decisions are I know there are many parents who are involved by helping with homework, work- ing with the PTO, and assisting with many other school activities. Even with this com- mitment, there is much more that we will have to do to turn the tide in our schools. We, as parents, have to be involved from the highest decision-making level - the School Board - all the way to the individual classroom. Parent involvement is the key to better education for our children. If elected, I will seek to be a parent representativ ¢ to the Dean Spears and we ask that you the public support this worthy candidate.
