Page-2B-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, September 30, 1993 Ragland wildlife officer of year Because he like's hunting and fishing himself, Kings Mountain's Sgt. Chester Ragland said it was natural for him to takc a job with the North Carolina Wildlifc Commission. The 19-ycar veteran was hon- orcd recently as Wildlife Enforcement Officer of the Year. Ragland’ works in three countics and Moss Lake, Lake Lure and Lake James are his patrol arcas. "1 just figured it would be one of “ the younger guys who got the award, said Ragland, 40. He was onc of ninc nominees chosen by district captains to vic for the top award. Ragland said he was surprised at Patriot softhall team wins 10-7 Kings Mountain Middle School's softball team defeated R-S Central 10-7 in eight innings Thursday. Amanda Johnsonbaugh was the winning pitcher. J : Christina Bolin's eighth -inning triple plated the winning run. Amy Pearson led the KM plate attack with three hits. Ginger Owenby added a pair, including a home run, and Julie Robbins also had two hits. FOOTBALL From Page 1-B the game R-S Central is a real good football team. “Jack Huss does a great coach- -ing job," Hicks added. "They're very sound and well-disciplined. They're not going to beat themselves. They just keep coming at you and try to take advantage of what you do on defense. "On defense, they're a multiple front," he said. "They don't have the speed a lot of teams have so they give you a lot of different looks. Our kids have to be real sharp offensively in applying their blocking rules and picking up their assignments. "This is a real big game for us," he went on. "We feel like if we're going to meet our goals of having a winning season and making the playoffs this is going to be a real important game. The next six games will pretty much be respon- sible for all the goals and objec- tives we set for ourselves. Even though we're not pleased with our pre-season performance, this is a new season. Hopefully we learned some things in the last four games but they're past and done. We hope our players and fans afd coaches will re-group and make a big push as we start our conference play.” THE YARDSTICK KM M First downs 9 12 Yds. rushing 157 282 Yds. passing = 48 70 Passes 3-7-2 2-4-1 Punts 2-37 2-28 Fumbles lost 3 3 Yds. penalized 80 10 Score by quarters: T KMQ 7.0 0 --7 Mi 0 143.0 17 M - Michael Gandy 12 run (Pat Stutts kick).
