First Presbyterian Church of i Bessemer City will host the second y service on October 17 and Rev. 3 Eric Meyers and the choir of Hephzibah Presbyterian Church will lead the preaching and song service. Richard Brantley Newsome, 30, has accepted the call of First Presbyterian Church and will assume his new pastorate du- ties January 1. : Newsome, who has served for three years as Associate Pastor of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church in Mobile, Alabama, is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and He is “married “to orddfn Presbyterian minister, Karen dren, Burns, two; and Sarah Elizabeth, four months. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. James Newsome. Dr. Newsome teaches Old Testament Studies at Columbia Seminary in Decatur, GA. The local congregation will be the first full-time pastorate for Newsome. For the past year Dr. Donald Mitchell has served as in- terim pastor since the resignation of Dr. Eric Faust, who moved to Clarksburg, West Virginia as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Clarksburg. Card benefit set at church Local bridge and card players are invited to a card benefit October 25 from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at St. Michael's Parish in Gastonia sponsored by Confracernity of Christian Women of St. Michael's Church.
