Obituaries Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, October 28, 1993 PLATO GOFORTH Plato Clarence Goforth, 87, of 108 Afton Drive, Kings Mountain, died October 24, 1993 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Clarence P. and Laura Whiteside Goforth. He was a retired electrician and a member of First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Eva Mae Cobb Goforth; a daughter, Mrs. Philip "Pat" Witherspoon of Kings Mountain; three grandchil- dren, Charles Witherspoon, Rick Witherspoon and Wanda Whetstine, all of Kings Mountain; and a sister, Lucille Coley of Red Springs. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. John Sloan Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may-be made to. Cleveland County Hospice, 201 W. Marion St., Shelby. FRANK IVESTER GASTONIA - Frank Ivester, 64, of Freedom Mill Road, died October 25, 1993 in Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Rabon County, GA, son of the late Garnet Lester and Carrie Angeline Turpin Ivester. He was retired from Doran Mills in Shelby. He attended South Gastonia Pentecostal Church. Surviving are his wife, Ola Mae Carroll Ivester; two sons, Leroy Franklin Ivester and Frank Torben Ivester of Gastonia; three daugh- ters, Patricia Ann Felding of Norcross, GA., Janice Elaine Queen of Gastonia and Crystal Mae Ivester of the home; one brother, Abraham Ivester of Griffin, GA; three sisters, Sally Free, Frances Erwin and Drucilla Barrett of Cornelia, GA; and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at South Gastonia Church of God. Rev. Bobby Gilly and Rev. Jimmy May will officiate. Burial will be in West View Gardens. MARY H. McCULLOUGH LLINCOLNTON - Mrs. Mary Leola Hull McCullough, 92, of 700 Glen St., died October 24, 1993 at home. A native of Lincoln County, she was a homemaker and widow of Marvin Williams and Richard McCullough. She was the daughter of the ‘late’ Major' Lee and Eliza Seagle Hull. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are four sons, Marion L. Williams of Kings Mountain, Carl L. Williams of Grey, GA, William P. Williams of Lawndale and Steven A. Williams of Great Falls, Montana; four daughters, Mary L. Younts and Pat L. Wilson of Lincolnton., W. Faye Barnette of Kings Mountain and Irene Jones of South Boston, VA; five sisters, Laura Jarrells, Lula Ballard; Prue Van Dyke and Muriel Brendle, all of Vale, and Ethel Rhodes of Lincolnton; 10 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchilden; and 23 great- great grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at E. F. Drum Chapel by Rev. Tim Spencer. Burial was in Hollybrook Cemetery. Perkins, 61, of 158 Galilee Church Rd., died October 23, 1993 in Kings Mountain Hospital. He was a native of Cleveland County, son of the late John and Virgie Lewis Perkins. He was a re- tired textile employee. surviving are his wife, Mildred Whiteside Perkins, four sons, Thomas Charles Perkins Jr., of Kings Mountain, Tony Perkins and Reginald Perkins of Charlotte and Author Perkins of Shelby; two ghters, Gina Perkins Adams of Kir gS Mountain and Beverly Perkins of Greensboro; five broth- ers, Charles Perkins of Washington, DC, Rev. Paul Perkins of Knoxville, TN, and Clyde Perkins, Bobby Perkins and Rev. - Albert Perkins of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Virginia Brown, Sarah Adams, both of Kings Mountain, and Betty Jones of Bronx , New York; and nine grand- children. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Galilee United Methodist Church. Rev. Liston Sellers will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. PAUL R. HOLLAND JR. ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Paul R. Holland Jr., 70, a retired Army Colonel who lived in the Mt. Vernon area of Alexandria since 1968, died October 1, 1993 at his home after a year-long illness. A native of Gastonia, Col. Holland was a 1945 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and received a master's de- gree in business administration from Syracuse University in 1955. He spent most of his 30-year Army career in the infantry and comptroller positions. He served in Korea at the end of World War II, was an infantry company comman- der during the Korean War, and was on the MACV staff in Vietnam. He served three years as an advisor to the Venezuelan Army War College. His last assignment as as Director of Personnel and Commercial Affairs in the Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs at the Pentagon. His military awards included two Legions of Merit and a Bronze Star. After retiring from the Army, "Col. Holland worked for United Services Life Insurance Company in Arlington, from which he retired again as a Senior Vice President in 1988. He was an active member of the Ft. Belvoir Post Chapel and had been a very active Army Community Service volunteer a Ft. Belvoir, counselling service mem- bers and giving classes on financial management. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Jacquelynne Cairns of Alexandria; a daughter, Gwen Holland Greathouse of Lexington, NC; a son, Paul R. Holland III of Herndon, VA; a sis- ter, Elizabeth Holland Amos of Kings Mountain, NC; and seven grandchildren. ETHEL RAMSEY LINCOLNTON - Mrs. Ethel Jackson Hunter Ramsey, 76, of 518 S. Poplar St., died October 23, 1993 in Lincoln County Hospital. A retired secretary in the Lincolnton City Schools, she was a native of Lincoln County and daughter of the late John and Ethel Jackson Hunter. She was the wid- ow of David Ramsey. Surviving are one son, Dr. David Ramsey Jr. of Lincolnton; one daughter, Mrs. Emily Suber of Kings Mountain; and four grand- children. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of which she was a member. Rev. Terry Agner offici- ated. Burial was in Hollybrook Cemetery. MARVIN HUFFSTETLER George Marvin "Slim" Huffstetler, 83, of 106 Arrowood Dr., died October 26, 1993 in White Oak Manor. A native of Gaston County, he was the husband of Mary Elizabeth ° "Gertie" McMurray Huffstetler and son of the late Edward and Cora Lee Brannon Huffstetler. He was a member of Dixon Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 155. He was a retired textile employee. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Gail Huffstetler of Kings Mountain; one sister, Lucy Dover of Gastonia and two grandchildren, Nikki and Paige White. The funeral will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel by Rev. Eugene Land. Burial will be in Mountain-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry, Box 1335, Kings Mountain, 28086. KATIE BOYCE Katie Wade Boyce, 71, of 404 N. Tracy St., died October 23, 1993 in Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of York County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and M Mrs. Clarence Wade and was the widow of Sam Boyce. JAMES E. BURRIS James Edward Burris, 84, of 109 Railroad Ave., died October 23, 1993 in Sherry Oaks Nursing Center in Cherryville. He was a native of York County, SC and a retired Burlington Mills employee. He is, survived by his wife, Rosie Bell Burris; seven daughters, Isabell Watson of Kings Mountain, Pearl R. Wilson of Cherryville, Ella Kee, Gladys Webber and Jessie Ross, all of Shelby, and Jossie L. Walker and Ida O. Sanders of Gastonia; two sons, Lonnie B. Burris of Gastonia and James W. Burris of Kings Mountain; 41 grandchildren; 105 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
