RC KINSTON - Forrest Eugene Roper, 69, of Route 6, Box 71, died November 10, 1993 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. He was President of Local Union 96 in Charlotte, Scoutmaster of St. David Lutheran Church in Kannapolis, Pioneer of Karate in the Kinston area, and a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Eula Hill Roper of the home; four daughters, Gloria Tadlock of Concord, Rita Wilkerson of Florence, SC, Dale Bare of China Grove, and Jackie Hardison of Kinston; two sons, Mike Roper of China Grove and Bryan Mercer of Huntsville, Alabama; a sister, Lillian Boheler of Kings Mountain; 17 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. The funeral was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Howard- Carter & Stroud Funeral Home. The Revs. Archie Ratliff and David Paramore officiated. Burial was in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston. CHALMER GOINS Chalmer Mack Goins, 70, of 501 Wilson St., died November 14, 1993 in Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Kings Mountain, he was husband of Doris Strong Goins. He was son of Clyde E. and Pearl Short Goins. He was retired from Retreading Equipment Company of Charlotte. He was a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church in McAdenville. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. Surviving, in addition to his wife and parents, are one son, Steven Goins of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Linda Short and Debbie Johnson, both of Kings Mountain; one brother, Roy Goins of Patterson Springs; seven sisters, Sadie Mae Taylor, Thelma Bridges, Dorothy Payne, Inez Brafford, Pernell Patterson, all of Kings Mountain, Bertha Goins of Shelby and Vera Davis of Shenandoah, VA; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Harris Chapel by Rev. James Hamrick. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. DONALD D. KISTLER JR. . Donald Dye Kistler Jr, 70, of 1001 Cleveland Ave., died November 14, 1993 in Charlotte Presbyterian Hospital. A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, he was a retired minister and the son of the late Donald Dye and Hilda Patricia Yoe Kistler Sr. He was a World War II Navy veter- an. Surviving are two sons, Michael A. Kistler of Kings Mountain and Donald D. Kistler III of Hendersonville; three daughters, Sherry Trecosta of Charlotte and Tammy Gonter and Patty Horn of Gastonia; one sister, Patricia Blair of New Philadelphia, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren. Private funeral services were held. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to Cleveland County Kidney Association, 230 N. Post Rd., Shelby, 28150. VERTIE SMITH Vertie Houston Smith, 87, of 811 Katherine Ave., died November 15, 1993 in Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. A native of Catawba County, she was widow of Arthur Ray Smith and the daughter of the late Robert and Etta Shook Houston. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a retired em- ployee of Mauney Hosiery. Surviving are three sons, Bob Smith, Houston Smith and Paul Smith, all of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Mrs. Peggy Gladden of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Ward of Brookford and Mrs. Pauline Eckerd of Hickory; seven + grandchildren; and six great-grand- children. The funeral was ‘conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church by Dr. John W. Sloan. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hymnal Fund, First Baptist Church, 605 W. King St., Kings Mountain, 28086. DAVE GENTRY JR. Dave Edward Gentry Jr., 16, of 147 Green Meadow Drive, died November 12, 1993 in Carolinas Medical Center. He was a native of Jefferson, Louisiana, son of Dave and Ella "Kristy" Whatley Gentry. He was a 10th grader at Kings Mountain High School and played defensive tackle for the Kings Mountain Junior Varsity football team. He was in the school drama club. Surviving, in addition to his par- ents, are his 11-year-old sister, Jessica Nichole Gentry; and his pa- ternal grandmother, Dovie Pendleton Gentry of Charlotte. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Carothers Chapel in Gastonia by Rev. Ralph Dale. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia. Surviving are his mother, Isabelle Wade Brown of Kings Mountain; two sons, Tahvan Williams and Ralphel Williams, both of Kings Mountain; four brothers, James Brown of Kings Mountain, Limenia Jimerson of Lanchester, Pa., Chris Michael and Jerry Jimerson, both of Forest City; four sisters, Betty Perkins and Freida Holmes, both of Kings Mountain, Anita Robinson of Passaic, N. J. and Joan Jimerson of Forest City. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church by Rev. C.A. Feemster and Rev. Albert Perkins. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. CHANSOUK SOURISAK Chansouk Sourisak, 77, of 902 Grover Road, died November 16, 1993 at 7:18 a.m. at White Oak Manor. She was a native of Laos and a homemaker. She was widow of Khamla Sourisak. She was a mem- ber of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two sons, Chansamone Sourisak of Raleigh and James Sourisak of Kings Mountain; and one daughter, Chanpheng Chanthapheng of Kings Mountain; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Donald Mitchell. Fall bazaar set at Bethany ARP The women of Bethany ARP Church will sponsor a fall bazaar Saturday, Nov. 20 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m: The bazaar will include baked goods, canned goods, craft and Christmas items, and yard sale items. The proceeds will be used to : support missions projects and to make renovations to the church's fellowship hall. The church is located across from Bethany Elementary School at 1400 North Highway 161, Clover, SC. Youth Explosion I slated at Vestibule The Vestibule AME Zion Youth Group will be sponsoring Youth Explosion II on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m. The program will feature in con- cert The Harmonettes of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte. Arnie Epps, producer of the 6 o'- clock and 11 o'clock news for WSOC-TV, will be the guest speaker. OLIVER ARMSTRONG JR. Oliver Bryson Armstrong Jr., 66, of 604 Groves St., died November 12, 1993. He was a native of York County, SC, son of the late Oliver Bryson and Ethel Dover Armstrong Sr. He was retired from Foote Mineral Company. A US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. He was widower of Mary Rebecca Cook Armstrong. Surviving are three sons, Charles Armstrong, Todd Armstrong and Thomas Armstrong, all of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Debbie Robinson, Mary Lynn and Olivia Armstrong, all of Kings Mountain, and Vickie Thrift of Lawndale; one brother, Worth Armstrong of Spartanburg, SC and six grandchil- dren. A private funeral service was held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Rev. Mitchell Pruitt offici- ated.
