a Page 4B-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD Thurstion, b December 9, 1993 News Briefs | Christmas dance for 'over-40 crowd’ planned in Grover A Christmas dance for the "over 40 crowd" will be held December 14 from 7-10 p.m. at Grover Rescue Squad Building on Main Street in Grover. Admission is $3 for singles and $5 for couples. The price of admis- sion also includes refreshments. "The Ordinaries" will furnish music for dancing fast, slow, waltz, polkas, Paul Jones and much more. Featured soloist is Clyde Fore. The public is invited. . YMCA registering for Kids Night Out The Cleveland County Family YMCA is taking registration for Kids Night Out through December 15. The program is for ages 3-5, 6- 8 and 9-12. The program will take place at Jefferson School from 6-11 p.m. December 17. Activities will in- clude pizza dinner, swimming at Shelby High, games, a movie and popcorn and summer camp re- union. Fees are $7 members ($5 for second child) and $10 for non- members ($8 for second child). Registration for Youth Connection is taking place through December 30.This is an after school program for middle school teens that incorporates study jects, volunteering, weekly outings, career exploration and much more. The program begins January 6 and continues through the school year. The YMCA offers financial as- sistance and scholarships in these - programs and many others. Backyard birding program at park There will be a "backyard bird- ing" program Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 p-m. at Crowders Mountain State Park. A local bird expert will teach participants how to provide food and shelter for birds during the winter. The talk will last about one hour. Meet at the park office. For more information, call 853- 5375. : Auditions slated for Shelby play The Greater Shelby Community Theatre will hold audit8ions for "Fences" on Dec. 12 from 2-5 p.m. and Dec. 13 from 7-9 p.m. at the Cleveland Community College au- ditorium. The African American produc- _ tion has roles for five men, teenage to middle age; one woman, early to middle age; and one girl, age six or seven. The production is scheduled for February 4-7 at CCC. Bl The center's 11th annual Christmas party will be held Thursday, Dec. 16 from 2-4 p.m. Special entertainment will be se- cured and refreshments will be served. All senior citizens in the Kings Mountain School District are invit- ed to attend. Anyone needing transportation should request it by noon Monday, Dec. 14. Bl Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) vol- unteers are available to help senior citizens and their family members with insurance matters. Carolyn Bell, SHIIP counselor, is available at the Senior Center between the hours of 9 am. and 3 p.m. Monday-Friday to make ap- pointments for counseling. Counseling is available on Medicare, selecting supplementary Medicare insurance, interpreting Medicare Explanation of Benefits and supplementary benefits forms, organizing paper work, filing and tracking bills and claims, solving problem situations, and making thoughtful decisions about long term insurance. Seniors having claim problems or wanting sound advice are invit- ed to call Mrs. Bell. # The Senior Center nutrition site will have its annual Christmas party at Carolina Restaurant on Franklin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14.
