The Forest Development
Program offers cost-sharing incen-
tives to landowners who want to
plant trees. In 1992, 20 landowners
in Cleveland County received cost-
sharing assistance on 320 acres of
land, Hunt said. Statewide last
year, approximately 1,500
landowners received Forest
Development Program assistance
on 38,000 acres of land.
Hunt said that worked needed to
establish a new forest is eligible for
cost-sharing payment through the
program, including tree planting,
seedling costs, and preparation of

Burning permits available locally
The fall fire season officially
lasts until December 15.
The dry, hot summer has kept
many local fire departments busy
with wildfires, and County Ranger
John Hunt recommends that every
person be careful with any use of
fire. ;
The major cause of wildfires in
Cleveland County is debris burn-
ing, Hunt said. This includes
household trash, rubbish, brush and
leaves. Anyone planning to do out-
side burning between the hours of
12 midnight and 4 p.m. is required
by law to obtain a burning permit.

ing permits are issued free. The
permit should be read and any

locally at Lutz Oil Company in
Grover, Bridges Hardware in Kings
Mountain, Kings Mountain Farm
Center, and Tom's Family Mart in
Oak Grove.
