Tuesday, Heath opened his new $500,000 store on S. Battleground Avenue. Wednesday morning Heath was pumping Citgo gas for 88 cents a gallon. He plans to open 24 hours a day seven days a week. "I'm here to keep the prices down," said Heath who said the: price of gas will be lower by the end of the week. The price on his pumps advertise Citgo plus for 99 cents a gallon, premium at 1.05 and kerosene at 89 cents. - Heath said his gas prices are no gimmick. "I'm here to stay in busi- ness and offer low prices," he said. Heath and his wife, Sue Anne, were putting the finishing touches to the store this week and stocking merchandise. Mike's Food Store will feature a full line of groceries including make-your-own hotdogs for 37 cents. The store occupies 33,075 square fee of floor space on a two- acre lot across from Timms Furniture. Heath purchased the property from the Fred Plonk Estate. A Kings Mountain native, Heath is the son of Nell Heath and the late Frank Heath. As a boy he worked at Community Grocery and then at the old Gault Grocery on North Piedmont Avenue. In March 1992 he opened Mike's Food Store in Grover. Before that he worked for the Etna Station on Shelby Road for 15 years. Heath says he is taking applica- tions for jobs for five more em- ployees. City to raise Moss Lake level City crews will start raising the Moss Lake level this weekend, weather permitting, says Tom Howard, Community Services Director. The lake, which has been low- ered 5 1/2 feet, will be back up to the normal levels in three to four weeks, depending on the weather. Howard said the warm tempera- tures have contributed to the city's progress on paving of streets. Paving still needs to be completed on Gaston Street, North Gantt and South Cansler Streets but work has been completed or is almost com- pleted on Henry, a portion of Church Street, Grace Street and Fourth Street, he said.
