Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, December 16, 1993 Obituaries CHARLES E. GOFORTH SR. Charles Edward Goforth Sr., 78, retired dairy farmer, died December 14, 1993 at home. A native of Rutherford County, he was married to Mary Schenck Goode Goforth and was the son of the late George Edward and Elizabeth Pannell Goforth. He was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam Goforth and John Goforth. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Ed Goforth and wife Pam, and Paul Goforth and wife, Debbie, all of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Jane Elmore and husband Doug of Lexington; Linda Stroupe and hus- band Wayne and Helen Houser and husband Peter, all of Gastonia; three brothers, Coleman Goforth and Joe Goforth, both of Shelby, and George Goforth of Blacksburg, SC; one sister, Press "Zella" Sweezy of Kings Mountain; 14 grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Beulah United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert E. Bogan and Chaplain Keys Pendelton officiated. Burial was in Beulah Cemetery. BESSIE WARE Bessie Wood Ware, 70, of 104 Benfield Rd., died December 8, 1993 in Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Kings Mountain, she was a homemaker. and wife of Frank Ware ‘and daughter of Kimmie Sperling Wood of Kings Mountain and the late Charlie Wood. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church. Surviving, in addition to her husband and mother, are one son, Charles Ware ‘of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Robert Wood of Kings Mountain and Zeb Wood of Bessemer City; one sister, Margaret Brackett of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Wesleyan Church. Rev. Mark Bardsley officiated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. A A EEE Local student faces suspension A Kings Mountain Middle School student was suspended from: school for two days Monday after a mini-bottle containing an al- coholic beverage was found in her possession on school grounds. The violation was detected as police officers conducted the first random screening with metal de- tectors for weapons and drugs on school campuses. There were no other violations, according to Supt. Dr. Bob McRae, who said the girl turned over the bottle to police when they asked if students were carrying any weapons, drugs, or alcohol. The screening was conducted quickly of every fifth girl. A policy to random screen with metal detectors was approved re- cently by the Kings Mountain Board of Education. Zoning Board meets Thursday Two requests for rezoning and one request for plat approval are on the agenda for Thursday's meeting of the Planning and Zoning board at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Rodney Brown is asking for re- zoning of property at Cleveland County Tax Map 4-61, Block 1, [ot 5, from B20 to GB and Joe Edmunds us asking for rezoning property at Kings Mountain Tax Map 10, Block 1, Tat 23 from P 10) to R-8. Williams Subdivision, off Phifer Road, is asking for final plat ap proval. WILLIAM WATTERSON JR. SPARTANBURG, SC - William Lester "Buster" Watterson Jr., 72, of 180 S. Pinelake Dr., died December 12, 1993 at home. A native of Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late William Lester and Frances Mercer Watterson. He was a retired em- ployee of Package Products Company of Charlotte. He was a member of Arkwright Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a Mason. Surviving are two sons, Craig Watterson of Gaffney and William L. "Bill" Watterson III of Norfolk, Virginia; one daughter, Karen Varner of Spartanburg; two broth- ers, C.E. "Ersten’ Watterson of Kings Mountain and George "Bobby" Watterson of Carothersville, MO; one sister, Laura White of Kings Mountain; and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harris Chapel in Kings Mountain by Rev. Wayne Reynolds. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. ELLAREE PETERSON Ellaree Dellinger Peterson, 84, of 805 Boyce St., died December 8, 1993 in Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Gaston County, she was a homemaker and widow of John Peterson. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Surviving are two sisters, Eracey Cornwell of Shelby and Lucy Foster of Taylorsville; eight grand- children; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Haynes and Rev. John Heath officiated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. LILLIAN A.WHETSTINE Lillian A. Whetstine, 79, of Route 1, Sparrow Springs Rd., died December 8, 1993 inKings Mountain Hospital. A native of Lowell, she was a homemaker and daughter of the late Ed and Minnie Lou Deal Whetstine. She was a member of Carson Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Sue Wilson of Kings Mountain; one grandson, Jerry Dean Wilson of Kings Mountain; one great-grandson, Scott Wilson of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Melvin Whetstine and Otis Whetstine of Kings Mout; ‘and KE a Mountain. * ~The graveside service was con- ducted Friday at 3 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery by Rev. Wayne Kirk. EMMA MARY GREASON Emma Mary Wood Greason, 76, of 811 Ramseur St., died December 10, 1993 in Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Gaston County, she was widow of Willie Greason and daughter of the late Hilliard and Susan Garver Wood. She was a re- tired Cora Mill employee. Surviving are two sons, Roger Greason and Kenneth Greason of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Louise England of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Rufus Wood and Leroy Wood of Kings Mountain; one sister, Maggie Ford § of Kings Mountain; five grandchil- #& dren;and six great-grandchildren. The class members are distribut- ing groceries, canned hams, Christmas stockings and toys ga- lore to families who otherwise would have a bleak Christmas. Paula McDaniel, project chair- man, said the class members raised $4,000 for needy families at a spaghetti supper before the first KMHS football game, at two fami- ly night suppers and from dona- tions. This is the 10th year that the class has said Merry Christmas to needy families. McDaniel said that more money has been donated this year than ever before because of the need. Kathy Livsie is chairman of the distribution committee, Lisa Warren heads up the toy commit- tee, and Dr. David McDaniel and Terry Edwards were food coordina- tors.
