Parent/teacher
conferences set
Parents of Kings Mountain High
School students may have confer-
ences with teaches Thursday, Jan.
13 between 1-8 p.m. Appointments
are not necessary as parents will be
able to schedule conferences once
they arrive at the school.
If parents prefer to pre-arrange
appointments, they may do so by
calling 734-5647. Student report
cards for the first semester will be
available for parents to pick up.
Scholarship funds
for Head Start grads
Cleveland County Head Start is
accepting applications from any
graduate of a North Carolina Head
Start program for scholarship
funds. The applicant must be cur-
rently enrolled or planning to en-
roll in a four-year college, two-year
college, technical college, commu-
nity college or vocational school.
Anyone interested in applying
for the scholarship funds should

Sharks win over
Charlotte, Gaston
The Sharks Aquatics Club.
scored 533 points to edge Charlotte:
Swim Association (437) and
Gaston County Aquatic Club (329)
in a recent Blue Ridge Swim
League meet at Neisler
Natatorium.
First place winners for the
Sharks were Amy Hendrick with
three, Angela Strahler, Alex Queen
and Nathan Mayse with two each,
and Jessica Koenig, Kelly
Hendrick, Drew Thomas and Matt
Borders with one each.
Classes slated
at Cleveland CC
Cleveland Community College's
Continuing Education Department
will offer classes for tanning bed
operators and piano instruction.
Tanning Bed Operator's class
will start January 24 and end on
February 7. Joann Schilling will in-
struct the 13-hour class on Monday
and Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. in
campus room 1134. Registration is
$34.
"Pop Style Piano Made Easy"
will be held January 31 from 6:30-
9:30 p.m. Debra Belcher is in-
structing the three-hour course for
which registration is $47.50.
Mayhew selected
to Abbey dean's list *
Andrea E. Mayhew, Putnam
Lake Road, Kings Mountain, was
named to the Dean's list for the fall
semester at
College. She is a 1989 graduate of
Kings Mountain High School and
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Andrew E. Mayhew.
To quality for the Dean's List, a
student must achieve a minimum
grade point average for the
semester of 3.40, complete a mini-
mum of 12 semester credits on a
graded basis, and have no failing or
incomplete grades for the semester.

The Whisnants of Morganton
will be in concert Sunday, Jan. 16
at 6 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist

in a 56 foot long mountain trout
fishing tank holding 750 North
Carolina rainbow trout from 10
inches in length up to three and a
half pounds in size. No license is
needed, and tackle and bait are in-
cluded in the $2 price of fishing
seven frantic minutes. A second 60
foot tank in the middle of the show
floor allows anglers to try out cast-
ing rods and reels and new lures
before they buy.
