ZETTIE DEAL MILLEN
Zettie Deal Millen, 95, of 315
Parker St., died January 4, 1994 at
Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Burke County, she
was a homemaker and widow of
William Robert Millen Sr. She was
the daughter of the late Charlie and
Laura Deal.
She was a member of Central
United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Willard
Millen of Riverdale, MD and
Tommy Millen and Charles Millen,
both of Cayce, SC; five daughters,
Rosanell Mayhue, Alma Gantt,
Doris Hardin and Margaret
Freeman, all of Kings Mountain,
and Ruth Gregory of Charlotte; one
sister, Florence Bostain of
Salisbury; 15 grandchildren; 28
great-grandchildren; and seven
great-great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
Friday at 2 p.m. at Central United
Methodist Church. Rev. Harold
Schwantes officiated. Burial was in
Mountain Rest Cemetery.

EVA P. HUFFMAN
Eva Propst Huffman, 72, of
Hickory, died January 9, 1994 at
Frye Regional Medical Center.
A native of Catawba County,
born February 27, 1921, she was
the widow of Richard Carroll
Huffman. She was the daughter of
the late Clinton and Lura Huffman
Propst.
She was a life-long member of
Miller's Lutheran Church. She was
a employed as a seamstress at Hunt
Galleries.
Surviving are one son and
daughter-in-law, Richard Michol
and Shirley Huffman of Kings
Mountain; one daughter, Iris
Huffman of Hickory; two grand-
~~ children, Mark Huffman of Shelby
and Jill H. Jones of Asheville; and
one great-granddaughter, Ashley
Nicole Jones.
She was preceded in death by
eight brothers.
The funeral was conducted
Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Miller's
Lutheran Church. Rev. Paul
Kanupp officiated. Burial was in
Catawba Memorial Park.

JAMES CUNNINGHAM
James Farnul Cunningham, 83,
of 1060 Barnette Dr., died January
5, 1994 at Kings Mountain
Hospital.
He was a native of Bryson City
and a retired textile employee. He
was the son of the late Clingman
and Nannie Jane Fisher
Cunningham.
He was a member of Second
Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jettie
Bridges Cunningham.
The funeral was conducted
Friday at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist
Church. Rev. Eugene Land officiat-
ed. Burial was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.
JOHNNIE OSBORNE
Johnnie Wright Osborne, 81, of
716 Sipe St., died January 5, 1994
at White Oak Manor.
A native ef Cleveland County,
she was widow of Robert B.
Osborne and daughter of the late
John and Lucy Savannah
‘Humphries Wright. She was a
member of First Presbyterian
Church and a member of Southern
Bell Pioneer Club. She was a re-
tired employee of Southern Bell
Telephone Company.
She is survived by one son,
Robert B. Osborne Jr. of Columbia,
SC.
The funeral was conducted
Friday at 11 a.m. at First
Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dick
Newsome officiated. Burial was in
Mountain Rest Cemetery.
HORACE BARRETT
Horace George Barrett, 83, of
Cherry Oak Nursing Home in
Cherryville, died January 5, 1994
at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County,
he was widower of Edna Long
Barrett and son of the late F. C. and
Ida Mabry Barrett. He had retired
from Barrett Grocery.
He was a World War I Army vet-
eran.
Surviving are one son, Don
Barrett of Orlando, Florida; two
daughters, Fern Windsor of
Spartanburg, SC and Joan Carroll
of Kings Mountain; six grandchil-
dren; and five great-grandchildren.
The graveside service was con-
ducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at
Mountain Rest Cemetery. Rev.
Bark Bardsley officiated.

he was the son of the late Ralph

Wallace. He was a retired truck
driver and a member of Grace
United Methodist Church.

and three sisters, Shirley Adams
and Dora Ann Bowen, both of
Kings Mountain, and Barbara
Cook of Shelby.

ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Eva
Connor Freeman, 6516 Walter Dr.,
died January 5, 1994 in Fairfax
County Hospital.
A homemaker, she was a former
resident of Gastonia and widow of
Rev. Joe Freeman. She was daugh-
ter of the late James Wiley and
Cora Sheppard Connor.
Surviving are four sons, Paul
Freeman and Thomas Freeman of
Alexandria, Rev Gene Freeman of
Roseboro and James Freeman of
Norfolk; one daughter, Mary Helen
Russell of Elkton; one brother, Jim

Ollie Peterson Sanders, 83, of
701 Cleveland Ave., died January
8, 1994 at White Oak Manor.
A native of Cherokee County,
SC, she was the widow of John
Gaither Sanders and daughter of
the late Ed and Mollie Martin
Peterson. She was a retired textile
worker. She was a member of
Corinth Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Dot
Fletcher of Kings Mountain; two
sisters, Violet Henson and Bertha
Styers of Kings Mountain; four
grandchildren; five great-grand-
children; and two great-great
grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Harris Chapel.

Mountain Rest Cemetery.

nal grandmother, Teresa Poteat of
Gastonia; paternal grandmother,
Sandra Diane Tate of King
Mountain; paternal step grandfa-
ther, Robert T. Tate of Kings
Mountain; maternal great-grand-
mother, Rose Moore of Gastonia;
paternal great-grandparents, Lewis
and Hilda Fisher of Sylva; a sister,
Tisha Sue Rich of the home; and a
brother, Ronnie David Rich of the
home.
A graveside service will be con-
ducted by the Rev. Jimmie Farmer
Thursday at 2 p.m. at Gaston
Memorial Park, Gastonia. The
family will receive friends prior to
the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at
Carothers Funeral Home.
Task Force to meet
The newly-created violence
task force will meet January 20 at 7
p.m. in the Superintendent's Office
to consider additional recommen-
dations to present the Board of
Education.
Coordinator Jean Thrift said the
21-member committee will finalize
their recommendations by the May
meeting so that the Board of
Education can study them for pos-
sible implementation by the begin-
ning of the new school term in
August.
Thrift said that students have on
hand the small decals with the tele-
phone number to call the Kings
- Mountain Police Department and
report anonymously crimes on
school campuses. The number to
call is 734-4533.
