The classmate told the teacher. Hoyle said he suspended the girl from school for seven days. Hoyle said that the child's teach- cer had talked to the classmates sabout the danger of weapons and ‘that when one of the children ob- served the knife in the book bag “that he called the teacher. "I don't really think the little girl knew what danger she or anyone ‘else could be in with a weapon such as a knife," said Hoyle. Alma Gantt, 508 Rhodes Ave., re- ported a lost or stolen purse valued at $40. Officers responded to two incidents at Pine Manor Apartments during the weekend during a four-hour period. Officers said a fight was in progress in- volving weapons and they arrested Mark Edwin Melton, 210 E. Georgia Ave., Bessemer City, with carrying a concealed weapon and on drunk and disruptive charges. At 5 a.m. officers arrested a a 17-year-old suspect and charged him with drunk and disruptive. Terry Lynn Vessey, 1B Kingswood, reported harassing phone calls and an attempted break-in. She said that an upper bedroom window was broken out by someone using an unknown ob- ject. WRECKS JANUARY 6 A 16-year-old driver was charged with unsafe movement after his 1977 Toyota hit a 1980 Chevrolet owned by Judy Marie Teague, 214 Walker St., at , Phifer Road and Mountain Street. Ptl. Lisa Capps said that the teenager had pulled out at a stop sign and failed to see the other car before pulling into the intersection. One person was injured. Property damages totaled $1800. Vehicles operated by Sadie Adams McClain, 1112 York Road, and Gloria Williams Burris, 1710 Northwoods, hit at the intersection of W. King Street and Country Club Drive. McClain was driving a 1984 Honda. Burris was driv- ing a 1994 Jeep. Ptl. Lisa Capps said the McClain car was towed to Weaver's Body Shop. JANUARY 7 A car operated by Ossie Roberts, 1326 Kings Drive, turned in front of a 1984 Ford operated by David Edward White, 5006 Pecan Drive, Shelby. The accident happened at Battleground and King.
