With just three players on the
bench the Red Raiders couldn't
contend with Kings Mountain's
depth for a full four quarters, but
Bill Hannon's outfit gave a good
account of itself in the first half,
South Point grabbed an early
lead but Kings Mountain came
back to lead 23-14 at the quarter
break. South Point scored the first
eight points of the second quarter
to get back in the game but Kings
Mountain managed to stay on top
35-30 at halftime.
The second half was all Kings
Mountain. The Mountaineers
outscored the Raiders 25-12 in the
third quarter to make the score 60-
42, and the rout was one.

Conference action Friday afternoon
at the KMHS gym.
The Mountaineers lost their
starting point guard Sidney
Crocker when he injured his knee
in pre-game warm-ups, but Coach
Ronny Funderburke got an out-
standing performance from all of
his other players.
The Mountaineers led only 14-
13 after the first period but
widened the margin to 35-26 at in-
termission. The Mountaineers
turned the game into a rout in the
third period, building a 56-39 ad-
vantage.
Jason Wade led the
Mountaineers with 12 points and
C.C. Smith added 11. Justin
Champion had eight, Marcus Smith
seven, Corey Jones, Des Holland
and Brad Jones six each, Jonathan
Rhodes and Cameron Falls five
each, Alex Burris four, Jon
Sizemore three and Ricky Southard
two.
"C.C. Smith had a strong game
inside along with Justin
Champion,” said Funderburke.
"South Point had two 6-5 guys in-
side but C.C., Justin and Cameron
Falls battled tough. Our quickness
with Marcus Smith, Desmond
Holland and Jason Wade was the
difference."
Jason Lunsford led South Point
with 16 points. Brett Hoover added
14 and Michael Hudson 12.

and 361 set to lead the 4-Packers
into a tie for second place. Robert
Hullender led the Night Crawlers

boys basketball team opened its
season Monday with a 46-38 victo-

Ralphel Williams led the Patriots
with 13 points and Marlon Byers,
Ty Toney and Joseph Bell added
eight each. Andy Leigh grabbed 10
rebounds.
The Patriots host West Lincoln
Thursday. Girls action gets under
way at 4 p.m. and the boys game
will begin around 5 p.m.
Next week, the KM teams host
Crest Tuesday and East Lincoln
Thursday, and then will have seven
straight road games.

non-conference foe Mooresville
Tuesday night at the KMHS gym.
The girls fell 62-52 to a strong
Mooresville team which they had
defeated in the recent Lincoln
Bank Classic, and the boys lost 64-
60 as Mooresville came from be-
tremendous accuracy," said KM
Coach Tony Leigh. "We had some
trouble with their press early. It
created some turnovers and we did-
n't settle down.
"Our girls played hard," he
added. "They ran the floor hard but

from three-point range to get on
top early, and Kings Mountain nev-

get hot again and build a comfort-

Mooresville hit three three-
pointers to grab an 18-10 lead after
the first quarter. They led 30-24 at
the half and 48-38 going into the
fourth quarter.
