Kathryn E. Champion, seventh grader, won the District II contest and also the state-wide competition for her essay on "Coming to America," based on Colonial Days from 1607-1776. Other winners were Marylee Dilling, sixth grade, District IT win- Mark Midgette bowls 425 series ¥ Front-runner R.W. Hullender lost four games to Mark Midgette while John Dilling and Jack Barrett split four games in Mixed Duckpin Bowling League action Tuesday night at Dilling Heating. Midgette (10-10) had the hottest hand of all bowlers, bowling a 160 line and a 4254set to lead his ner and Basit Gangoo, first runner- up; Jamie Renee Caulder and Sarah Bunch, co-winners in the seventh grade; fifth grade overall winner Alan Jacob Gibson of Bethware School; District II winner Christopher Lee Bennett of West School; Chrls Andrew Neisler III of West School and John Abbott Goforth of Grover School Betty Masters introduced the student winners at Wednesday's DAR meeting at Mauney Memorial Library. She said that if Champion wins in the national competition she will become the first Kings Mountain winner in over 20 years. Shrges, Debbie Hullender added a 143- 7322. Chuck Ruley led Hullender (13-7) with a 112-301. John Dilling (8-12) bowled a 113 line and 330 set to lead his team to a split with Jack Barrett (9- 11). Barrett led his group with a 123-320.
