TALENT WINNERS—Top winners in the Cleve- land County 4-H Talent Show Saturday at Eliz- . abeth school in Shelby were Reta Vollbracht, left who won first place with a tap dance, and Garry Stewart, Bobby Jones and Gary Bolin, members of the Dixonairies, string band, which Laura Page Kay Mauney Sue Hoad Pattie Howard Ann Cooper Sura Hendricks placed second. All are of Kings Mountain and will represent Cleveland County in district com- petition. The talent show, with over 30 4-H'ers particpating, was held in conjunction with a county 4-H dress revue in which over 40 girls participated. Holly News David Baity, former staff member of the Kings Mountain Herald, has joined the staff of the Mt. Holly News as news! editor, it was announced by | John Brock, general manager of Lowrance Publishing Com- pany, Inc. Mr, Baity joined the Mt. Holly paper last week. Since resigning from the Herald last August, Mr. Baity had been associated with Alad- din Mills, Bessemer City. At the Herald, Mr. Baity was advertising manager, bookkeep- er, and assistant news editor. He joined the Herald on graduation from Kings Moun- tain high school in 1957. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Baity. PRESIDENT — Bill Allen was in- stalled as president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce for the coming year at the annual ladies’ night banquet Tuesday night. BIG CATCH — Mike Gaffney, sev- en-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Gaffney. bagged this six- pound bass on blackworm with the assistance of his grandfather, L. V. Gaffney. Mike, who has gone fishing since ace five with his erandfather, boasts the above catch as his “biggest yet.” THE WAY WE WELLE IN 1963 FROM THE FILES OF THE 1963 KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD DELEGATES — Joan McClure, top above, and Virginia Goforth are delegates from the American Legion Auxiliary to Tar Heel Girls’ State to be held June 16-22. Girls’ State Delegates Named Miss Joan McClure and Miss Virginia Goforth, rising righ school seniors, have been named delegates from The Amevcican Le- gion Auxiliary to Tar Heel Girls’ State this summer. Mrs. J. M. Rhea, chairman of the Girls State committee from Otis D. Green Post 155 of the Au- xiliary, made the announcement this week. Miss McClure is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. N, McClure and Miss Goforth is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Goforth, all of Kings Mountain. Tar Heel Girls’ State will be held June 16-22 on the campus of Woman's College of the Univer- sity of No.th Carolina. Girls State delegates are sclected an- nually by Legion Auxiliary posts to meet together in a week’s pro- gram that will bring together many of North Carolina’s out- standing students. Both Miss McClure and Miss Goforth are active in community, church and school affairs and participate in a number of extra curricular activities. TAR BABY — Beattie Leonard, of Kings Mountain is scheduled to be on the mound here Saturday night when the UNC Tar Babies meet the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs at City Stadium.
