Sunday wedding uniting Melissa Lynn Hargrove and William Ralph
Carson.
Rev. Elizabeth A. Darling, pastor of the church, officiated.
Michael Buckner presented the nuptial music.
The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, Bruce Turney.
Angela Terry was matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Beth Stroupe of Summerfield, Fla., Dottie Carpenter
of Kings Mountain and Brenda Allen of Lincolnton.
Jeff Cook of Gastonia was best man.
Groomsmen were Bill Spencer of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Mike Wilson
and Chris Wilson, both of Gastonia.

Rose Price of Kings Mountain announces the engagement of her daugh-
ter, Linda Sue, to John C. Mullins III of Gastonia.
The bride-elect is a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and is
working towards an associates degree in Criminal Justice at Cleveland
Community College. She is a member of the North Carolina National
Guard, the 505th Engineering Battalion. She is employed by Azdel Inc. of
Shelby.
.The bridegroom- to-be is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Mullins Jr. of
Abington, Va: He is a graduate of George Washington High School of
Charleston, West Virginia and of Marshall University i in Huntington, West
Virginia where he received a BA degree. He is currently working towards
a Master of Arts degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
He is also attending ‘the US Army Reserves Officer Training Program and
is enrolled in basic law enforcement training in Lincolnton for the
Lincoln County Sheriff's Department. Mullins is employed by Auto Zone

The bride and bridegroom received wedding guests in the church fellow-
ship hall after the ceremony.
Nadine Carson hosted the after-rehearsal party Saturday night.
The bride is the daughter of Rita Hargrove of Lincolnton. She is a grad-
uate of North Gaston High School and was a Junior marshal.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Carson of Kings
Mountain. He is a graduate of Temple Christian School and served on ac-
tive duty with the U.S. Army from 1986-1992 with duty in Desert Storm.
He is an active member of the US Army Reserves.
The newlyweds are at home in Lincolnton.

at bridal luncheon
Allison Ware, May 14 bride-
elect of Jamie Ledford, was hon-
ored May 7 at a bridal luncheon at
Hayden's in Gastonia.
Entertaining together were her
aunts, Genelle Holbrook, Jackie
Kincaid and Diane Metcalfe, as-
sisted by Gerri Holbrook Davis.
Present as special guests were
the bride-to-be's mother, Bobbie
Ware of Kings Mountain; the
bridegroom-to-be's mother, Ruby
Ledford of Lawndale; and the
bride-elect's grandmothers, Lurleen
Branks of Bessemer City and
Eleanor Ware of Kings Mountain.
The hostesses took the occasion
to present the bride-to-be a gift of
cookware and Miss Ware took the
occasion to present her attendants

Miss Ware wore a purple and

Connie Phifer, July 23 bride-
elect of Jim Savell, was honored
Saturday at a noon luncH®on hosted
by her aunt, Mrs. R. P. Anthony Jr,
at her home in Wesley Park,
Gastonia.
The bride's table was covered
with green and overlaid with white
Italian cutwork linen and centered
with an arrangement of roses.
Places for the eight guests were
marked with miniature bridal cou-
ples on a wedding bell.
The hostess presented Miss
Phifer with a corsage of white
daisies and a gift of china in her
chosen pattern.

Phyllis Roberts, May bride-elect,
was honored Saturday at a bridal
luncheon and surprise lingerie
shower hosted by Mrs. Ken Cook
and Mrs. Ken Davis at the Davis
home on Woodside Drive.
The honoree's place was marked
. by a corsage of white daisies. Fresh
spring flowers decorated the home.
A three-course luncheon was
served to the guests who gave the
bride-elect gifts for her trousseau.
Roberts and Ed Campbell will
be married Saturday in First
Baptist Church.
Events Planned
for Senior Citizens
Cleveland County Council on
Aging has arranged special events
this week and next.
Senior citizens 60 and older are
invited to take their favorite garden
flowers to the Senior Center, 408
E. Marion St., Shelby, for a contest
Thursday at 11 a.m. Prizes will be
awarded for largest bloom, most
unusual color, prettiest fresh cut ar-
rangement, and prettiest blooming
house plant.
A Gay Nineties covered dish
luncheon will feature the Friday
noon meeting at the Senior Center
in Shelby. Residents 90 years of
age and older will be special
guests.
A Super Sunday fun walk is
planned for Sunday and will high-
light a fitness festival in the park-
ing lot of the Shelby Senior Center.
Refreshments, prizes, music and
games will feature the event from
1:30-4 p.m. ‘A cake walk, billiards,
ping pong, a puppet show, mime,
and Mother Goose booths for chil-
dren will feature the event, open to
the public.
Agencies including Council on
Aging, Life Enrichment Center,
Live, Kings Mountain Senior
Center and Foster Grandparents
program will have special exhibits.
Other booths will feature informa-
tion on health and wellness, volun-
teers, insurance and housing infor-
mation, counseling and tax
assistance and legal aid, etc.
Free blood pressure checks will
be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at
Belwood Senior Center.
Registration for free commodi-
ties will begin Thursday and con-
tinue through May 31 from 9 a.m.-
12 noon and 1-4 p.m. at the Shelby
Senior Center. Persons age 60 and
over may call the Senior Center
during these three days only to reg-
ister for commodities to be dis-
tributed June 135.
Garden Club has
luncheon meeting
Town and Country Garden Club
met May 12 at Heritage House
Cafeteria for the final meeting be-
fore summer break.
The 15 members enjoyed a
Dutch treat meal filled with fun
and fellowship.

secretary-treasurer.
Each member took a plant from
her garden to share with other
members. A wide “assortment of
flowers and vegetables were dis-

has luncheon meeting

Aileen Hord of Charlotte, a
charter member, was present as a
special guest.
Four tables were arranged with
potpourri favors and centered with
roses, baby's breath and asparagus
fern.
Mrs. Eugene McCarter presided.
Mrs. Paul McGinnis reported
that Nandina bushes were planted
as a civic beautification project.
The club voted to buy; bedding,
plants for summer planting.
Perfect attendance awards were
egg trays donated by McCarter.
Door prizes went to Margaret
McCarter and Ethel McGinnis.
