Outdoor learning area at KMHS big hit with students and teachers Flatrock Outdoor Learning Area was a dream of various classes at Kings Mountain High School but Saturday a group of seniors helped put the finishing touches on a pro- ject that began three years ago. Earth Science and Biology stu- dents of Mark Sivy poured cement in a natural setting of trees and benches across from the track be- hind Kings Mountain High School and ended the day's work with a cookout. The flatrocks are part of the massive 350 million-year-oid Cherryville granite rock formation that underlies the area. This pro- vides the centerpiece of the newly completed Flatrock Outdoor Learning Area. Sivy said the project began as a means to access certain natural fea- tures that could supplement the teachings of Earth Science and Biology classes. Last year the Kings Mountain District School -Minigrant Foundation awarded a grant that allowed the purchase of equipment and materials that have been used to better develop the area. iy E& v A-B HONOR ROLL: ‘Making the Jy B Boner roll for the third nine weeks grading period at East School were, front row, left to right, Meagan Noell, Michael Smith, Buddy Black and Josh Brown.
