HUBERT SPENCER FLEMING
Hubert Spencer Fleming died
May 20, 1994.
Born September 30, 1921 in
Salisbury, he was the son of the
late Augusta and Della Taylor
Fleming, the youngest of 11 chil-
dren.
He moved to Philadelphia, Pa. in
1942 and married Allie Luean
Aldrick of Salisbury in December
1944 and they joined Mount Zion
Baptist Church.
In Philadelphia he was em-
ployed by E. G. Budd Company as
a crane operator for 36 years and
retired in 1979 when he moved to
Shelby. He was an Elk club mem-
ber of Reciprosity Lodge 693 and
attended services at Bynum's
Chapel AME Zion Church in
Kings Mountain. He was Support
Group member of the American
Cancer Society.
In addition to his wife, he is sur-
vived by two daughters, Brenda
Fleming Hughes of Philadelphia
and Gwendelyn Miller of
Richmond, Va; one brother, Jim
Fleming of Brielle, NJ; one sister,
Mae Frances DeSilva of
Philadelphia; three grandchildren,
Tony and Trudy Miller and Jamarr
Hughes; and one great-grandchild,
Travella Miller.
The funeral will be conducted
Thursday at 4 p.m. at Bynum's
Chapel AME Zion Church. Rev.
Stellie Jackson will officiate.
Burial will be in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the
building fund of Bynum's, Chapel
AME Zion Church.
H. SMYER WILLIAMS JR.
WINSTON-SALEM - Funeral
services for H. Smyer Williams Jr.
of Winston-Salem were conducted
May 6 at St. Paul's Episcopal
Church by the Rev. Thomas L.
Ehrich and the Rev. Jeffery Murph.
Entombment was at St. Paul's at
Forsyth Memorial Park.
Mr. Williams died-on May 3. He
was a native of Gastonia and the
son of the late H. Smyer Williams
and Mary Norman Williams. He
was preceded in death by a son,
Dick Williams, in 1984.
He was a graduate of Kings
Mountain High School and a U.S.
Navy veteran. He was a Pharmacist
Mate First Class and served in
Okinawa with Fleet Hospital 117.
Following his discharge from the
Navy, he graduated from Wake
Forest University, where he was a
member of the Lamba Chi Alpha
Fraternity.
Mr. Williams was a chemist and
an employee of American
Telephone and Telegraph from
1960 until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the American
Chemical Association.
He was a member of St. Paul's
Episcopal Church where he served
as an usher, Circuit Ride Captain
and on the Substance Abuse
Committee. He was a member of
the Forsyth-Stokes Mental Health
Board and was a former member of
the Winston-Salem Jaycees.
He is survived by his wife, Mary
Cralidis Williams; three daughters,
Elaine Williams and Melissa
Williams of Winston-Salem, and
Mrs. Laura Shinn and son-in-law
Lowell Shinn, M.D., of
Wilmington; a sister, Mrs. Frances
Chapman and brother-in-law,
Bobby Chapman of Peak, SC; a
brother-in-law, Peter Cralidis and

HELEN B. MOSS
Annie Helen Boheler Moss, 62,
of 106 Fairdel Street, Kings
Mountain, died May 23, 1994 at
Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of York, SC, she was
the daughter of the late Johnson
Herbert and Annie Louise Martin
Boheler. She was a retired knitter
with Mauney Hosiery Mill, and
was a member of Macedonia
Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband,
Palmer Glenn Moss of Kings
Mountain; a son, Palmer Glenn
Moss Jr. of Kings Mountain; three
daughters, June Coleman, Ann
Moss and Becky Moss of Kings
Mountain; a brother, John Robert
Boheler of Blacksburg, SC; a sis-
ter, Janice Harding of Kings
Mountain; and six grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted by
the Revs. Robert Pulkkinen and
Bob Hope Wednesday at 3 p.m. at
Harris Chapel. Burial was in
Mountain Rest Cemetery.
JOSEPHINE RAGSTOLE
Josephine Caroline Ragstole, 56,
of 110 Lady Lane, Kings
Mountain, died May 23, 1994 at
her home.
A native of Spartanburg, SC, she
was the daughter of the late
Lawrence Garvin and Mary
Elizabeth Blackwell Ragstole. She
was employed by Patrick Yarn
Mills in Kings Mountain.
She is survived by a daughter,
Betty Jo "Jody" Nolen of Kings
Mountain; a brother, Leon Ragstole
of Cowpens, SC; three sisters,
Louise Beam of Grover, Elizabeth
Wessinger of Prosperity, SC, and
Vera Taylor of Cleveland, Tn; and
two grandchildren.
Graveside services were con-
ducted by the Rev. Mitchell Pruitt
Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mountain
Rest Cemetery.

HAROLD W. EARP
FT. MYERS, FL. - Harold W.
Earp, 70, 3951 Arlington Street,
died Sunday, May 22, 1994.
A native of Kings Mountain, he
was the son of Essie B. Earp and
the late W.A. Earp, and was hus-
band of Martha Huffstickler. He
was a retired architect.
He is survived by two sons,
Mark and Rusty Earp of Ft. Myers;
a daughter, Lynn of Tampa, FL.;
four grandchildren; two sisters,
Helen E. Alexander of Kings
Mountain and Ada Wiley of Lake
Wylie, SC; and two brothers,
Charles "Esker" Earp and Sid Earp
of Charlotte.
A graveside service was held in
Ft. Myers on Tuesday, May 24.
BLANNIE D. HART
LANSING - Blannie Darnell
Hart, 84, of Windfall Road, died
Thursday, May 19, 1994 at Ashe
Memorial Hospital.
A native of Ashe County, she
was the daughter of the late Wade
Hampton and Malissia Caudill
Darnell, and was also preceded in
death by her sister, Lillian Darnell,
who died in 1982. She was a mem-
ber of Tuckerdale Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband,
Lester Hart; two daughters, Nancy
Hart Clay of Lenoir and
Betsy Wells of Kings Mountain; a
son, David Hart of Kings
Mountain; seven grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted by
the Rev. Lloyd Day, Dr. M.D. Hart,
Minister Danny Miller, and Rev.
Ora Sullivan Saturday at 2 p.m. at
Tuckerdale Baptist Church. Burial
was in the Hart-Ham Cemetery.

GRACE M. SAWYER
CHARLOTTE - Grace Lucille
McGinnis Sawyer, 79, of Charlotte,
died May 21, 1994 at her home.
A native of Kings Mountain, she
was educated in Kings Mountain
City Schools. She had lived in
Charlotte since 1951. She was a
homemaker and a member of St.
Mark's Lutheran Church,
She is survived by her husband,
Karl S. Sawyer of Charlotte; two
sons, Karl S. Sawyer Jr. and G.
Pierce Sawyer of Charlotte; two
daughters, Mrs. Kay Cowan of
Mint Hill and Mrs. Jeanne Matlock
of Weddington; three brothers,
Hubert McGinnis, Donald
McGinnis and Bill McGinnis of
Kings Mountain; three sisters, Mrs.
Virginia Sabettie of Kings
Mountain, Mrs. Dorothy Whetstine
of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and
Mrs. Janet Eagle of Landis; and 11
grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m.
Monday at St. Mark's Lutheran
Church. Burial was in Sharon
Memorial Park. :
