Children in St. Matthew's Pre-School presented a commencement program Thursday night. They sang songs in a "Rainbow of Children" program they dedicated to their retiring director Mrs. Joe Smith. Graduation program dedicated to teacher St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Pre-School dedicated its gradua- tion program Thursday to Nancy Smith, a retiring director and teacher. The program was entitled, "A Rainbow for Children." Suber III and members of the St. Matthew's Church Council. : ’ 2 RISIBERLY LEDFORD Four rio Mountain women in Shelby debutante ball Four Kings Mountain young women will make their debut to so- ciety at the Shelby Junior Charity League's 49th annual debutante ball Saturday at Vauxhall Center in Shelby. The local debutantes are: Jayda Denise Biddix, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James David Biddix, who will have her father as chief marshal. Pamela Courtney Goforth, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Warren G. Goforth, who will have her father as chief marshal. Miss Goforth is the granddaughter of Mrs. Edith Goforth of Kings Mountain and Mr. and Mrs Donald Dean Beck of Sherrills Ford. Kimberly Leigh Ledford, son of Jerry Franklin Ledford and Sheila Moss Ledford, will have her father as chief marshal. Miss Ledford is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Franklin Ledford of Kings Mountain. Carrie April Thornburg, daugh- ter of Miles and Debbie Gail Lineberger of Kings Mountain and Walter Thornburg Jr. of Hickory, will have Mr. Lineberger as chief marshal. Miss Thornburg is the granddaughter of Jean W. Killian and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thornburg Sr. of Hickory. The Junior Charity League of Shelby has a 60-year history in Cleveland County of charitable giving and service to the communi- ty, evolving in 1934 from the Music and Arts Division of the Shelby Woman's Club. Fifty-two young ladies of high school graduation age from 14 cities and towns will be presented to Western North Carolina society at 8 p.m. Saturday . The setting will consist of a columned portico. Window boxes and ferns will grace the windows and the formal entry JAYDA BIDDIX way. Hollies, caladiums, and gera- niums will be used in a landscaped effect. Each debutante will wear a long white ball gown and carry an arm bouquet of roses. The Ken Kennedy Band will provide music for the presentation. Dr. Frank Bonner will be commen- tator. Prior to the gala ball, a full weekend of social activities is planned. A registration brunch for debs and their mothers will be held Friday from 11-12:30 at Cleveland County Club. A salad lunch will be served. White spring flowers will decorate the party rooms. A dinner dance for parents will be held Friday night at 7:30 at Cleveland Country Club. Ken Kennedy and will provide enter- tainment. Candles and spring flow- ers will decorate the dining tables. Pamela B. Ingram, wife of Kevin Ingram and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grayton Bollinger, gradu- ated Magna Cum Laude. Ingram graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1984. Christy L. Dodge, Route 1, Amy T. Hord, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wayne Turner and a 1990 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and Cristi Putnam, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Putnam and a 1990 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, all graduated Cum Laude. Julie A. Jenkins, daughter of Tom Jenkins of Route 5 and Jene Jenkins of Surfside Beach, SC, re- ceived her degree. She is a 1990 graduate of Kings Mountain High School. Dodge, Ingram and Putnam were listed on the President's List with a minimum grade point average of 4.0. Hord was listed on the Dean's List where the minimum grade point average for the semester was 3.40.
