Moore joins more than 600 other First Union branch personnel in the Carolinas, Florida and Georgia as a dual employee of Canipe promoted to banking officer Richard M. "Rick" Canipe III has been promoted to banking offi- . cer by the BB&T Board of Directors in Wilson.The an- nouncement was made by Wade Beard, senior vice president in Winston-Salem. Bill would repeal intangibles tax Gaston County Democrat Senator David Hoyle has co-spon- sored a bill that will, repeal the in- tangibles tax in North Carolina. North Carolina is one of only seven states that has a tax on intan- gible property such as stocks and bonds. "We have to make North Carolina user-friendly for business and industry," said Hoyle. "Repealing the intangibles tax is one important step in achieving a sensible tax structure,” he said. The bill, if passed, would elimi- nate the tax so that no returns, would be due in April 1995. McMillan honored by U.S. Chamber Rep. Alex McMillan has been honored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for consistently voting to support American business. The Chamber presented the Spirit of Enterprise Award to McMillan for compiling a pro- business voting record of at least 70 percent, based on 11 key votes in 1993. The Chamber presented the award to 177 representatives and 44 senators. Battleship seeks veterans As part of its commemoration of the 50th anniversary of VJ Day, the Battleship North Carolina is plan- ning a new exhibit, "Through Their Eyes," which will focus on the end of World War II. The Memorial is currently look- ing for native North Carolinians who are World War II veterans and would like to be considered for in- clusion in the display. To be con- sidered, the following information. should be submitted: Full name, current address and phone number, North Carolina county in which service member enlisted, WWII branch of service, highest rank or rate held, service number, list of units assigned to during the war and dates of service in each, short narrative describing where you were on September 2, day, and a short narrative describ- ing your most poignant or memo- rable experience during your wartime service (if possible, limit this item to two double-spaced pages). Baseball camp set at Belmont Abbey The 1994 Crusader Baseball Day Camp will be held on the cam- pus of Belmont Abbey College July 11-15 and July 18-22. Campers may attend one of both sessions.
