J.J. Downey earns $1,000 scholarship James J. Downey of Kings Mountain has been awarded a col- lege scholarship of up to $1,000 by the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina. Downey is a sophomore at Wake Forest University where he is pur- suing studies in the classical lan- guages department. He is the son of Glenda Downey. Downey was sponsored for the award by B.F. Maner Insurance Agency of Kings Mountain. Judging for the scholarships is con- ducted by a panel of independent trustees. Recipients must be from North Carolina and pursuing a four-year degree in any state. Former winners may renew their scholarships during four years of undergraduate school as long as they qualify.
